Excuse my ignorance guys, but how does Promotion from the Championship work .. Is it just the Top 3 after a Minor Round type situation, or is there a finals/playoffs system? (I thought from memory this was the case)

Top 2 get automatic promotion then next four play off. 3 v 6 home and away, 4 v 5 home and away. Winners play off on neutral ground (Recent years Cardiff Millenium Stadium, but from this year good old (or should I say new) Wembley. Not saying too much about Wembley 3 year delay in completion on hear as it was built by an Aussie company  The winners join the other two in the big league.

Hence all attention is to getting into the top six. This is where you won't see the name Burnley

Not always the best format C_P. Remeber about 10 years ago Burnley won the play off final to gain promotion over 3rd placed Stockport. We were fully 12 points away from them at the end of the league games. No need to say we were relegated the next year.

The Baggies are slipping a bit which helps Cardiff.

Chelsea's winner came from the spot via Fat Frank. I was hoping City would at least hold them to a draw but they are in terrible form right now.

Steve Howard scored twice for Derby. Looking a good aquisition but whether he can step up to EPL level is another matter.
Man U loan Jonny Evans with 1st for the Cats after 3 minutes, and Stern john with the 2nd in the last minute. Sunderland completely dominated from start to finish.
Andy Keogh scored last minute equaliser for Wolves. Owls down to 10 men.

Let's hope Sunderland recruit some strikers if/when they get promoted. Fair enough David Connolly, but Stern John and Dwight Yorke aint gonna be tearing any EPL defences apart! :) Of course, all the Derby youngsters will step up! :P

BTW - didn't know Ray Parlour was at Hull.

Have wondered that myself about the Black Cats Mac.
Surely we won't be relying on Dwight in the Prem league.
I'm sure there'll be a lot of buying going on over the off season - and Roy's got the rep and the bills to bring the right players to the club too.

Stunning strike from PAUL ROBINSON - yes the KEEPER!!!!!!!!!!!

Surprisingly, that's actually his 2nd goal in the EPL!

VERY embarrasing for his rival for the England job. Probably the best way to secure your spot as 1st choice keeper - score a goal against your main rival.

Spurs now right back in the mix for Europe in 2007/8!!!!

True. But there seems just a little more substance now.

Feel sorry for anyone who, like myself, sat through the Liverpool v Villa game last night - The most boring error riddled game I've watched all season ... Thank god for the West Brom v Birmingham game beforehand!!

Everton beat Arsenal thanks to a late AJ strike
Charlton beat Newcastle 2-0 to keep their chances of staying up alive

Baggies and Brum drew 1-1

tomorrow morning (our time) is the FA Cup replays... Chelsea and Spurs are on ESPN live followed by United and Boro.

Dont think you will any worries there DW. Guaranteed 40k attendance, huge merchandising and £30m from TV rights next year (assuming they make it there), so they will have a bit of spending power, and the transfer market ain't what it used to be with players able to move on a free at the end of their contract, the cats will be able to negotiate deals directly with the players. It just means the players get richer and the cluds lose out (Especially the little ones)

Apologies on behalf of EPL for that one C_P. So bad I turned it off and watched re-runs of M*A*S*H*. Much better veiwing.

Just as a side issue, how much soccer do you guys get down there. When I was last there, you were lucky to get the pools results let alone live games. Only the FA Cup final was live.

What a great result. Don't know if you saw any of the game, (I always watch the b4st4rds just to see them lose), Linesman gave the softest penalty I can remember seeing in a long time for the Hammers to equalise and them gave a goal when the ball must have been at least 1 foot short of crossing the line. Even the fans at the opposite goal could see the ball hadn't crossed the line (Classic Comedy). The b4st4rds all went wild, players and fans, even calling for referees to be 'banned' WTF? in the local rag today.
Sooooooooooooooooooooo funny
Sooooooooooooooooooooo Good to Watch.

Not that I am biased of course.

Hope they ask him about yesterday
