Only 2 losses for the year though mate, you're still pretty well set up for the second half. It's a long season, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

We didn't have a win until a month ago, now we've won 3 out of the last 4 including knocking off 1st & 3rd on the ladder in the last 2 weeks! :D

It took a while, but it was all smiles (and plenty of beers!) at Christmas show Sat night. Think we might give a few teams a bit more of a run for their money second time around in the new year. 8)

I played a fair bit of bowls when i was 17/18, did quite well in some of the under 18 state champs and played a decent grade for blackwood, thinking about getting back into it, its been 7 years now since ive bowled a ball

You should take it up again mate. It's a great game and certainly not for just old fellas anymore. In fact you will find that most club's top side consists of 15 - 60 yr olds rather than 70+ these days.

Most of the top bowlers in the state are under 45.

On a different note - I was part of the winning Club Champion 4's team on Saturday! :D

Needed 3 shots of the last end to win it, 2 down on the head with the last bowl of the day to come from our skipper and he managed to find a gap in some short stuff and drag the kitty back for 4 shots!

I'm still not sure how he even did actually, I thought we were gawn for all money.

yeah get into it Scottroo - the game needs ya
And well done Gingernuts - those sorts of pressure shots make you and your team feel good - and on a pretty important end of a pretty important game

Got the Country Carnival draw now and staying at Glenelg so drawing Edwardstown for both the 4's and singles and then Payneham for the pairs is fairly handy in terms of travel. Beats going to Gawler, Elizabeth, Salisbury, Munno para etc.
Just about ready to start counting sleeps ;)

I'm only in the fours (with the same lineup that won Sat) and we're off to Woodville for the first round. I'm looking forward to it too, only been in it once and it was great fun! :D

Well the time has come / is near...

We are off to NSW tomorrow - hopefully these young kids can do SA proud and pick up some medals.
If not I'm sure they will relish the experience O:)

I won't be able to send through scores (no internet access for 3 to 4 days - oh dear...lol)
I'm sure the Bowls SA website will update regularly if anyone is interested in having a look.

Will post some pictures when I get back.

O:)

We're baaacckk

What a week - was great :D

The results:

MT79 - the boys and girls of SA did do us proud.

The scores on the board did not reflect just how fantastically they bowled. We managed to finish 3rd out of the 4 states, behind NSW and Vic (last year we finished last - so was a good result to improve). Our boys pairs against NSW was the most nerve-wracking game of all - playing two top quality bowlers who thought we were going to be 'easy' proved them wrong - with us going down by just one shot - you should have seen the terror in NSW eyes when they realised just how good we were !!

The venue:
GN and Steiger you would have loved it !!
I have never seen anything like it

-Indoor green was carpet - completely indoor fully air-conditioned venue.
-They also had outdoor synthetics and 1 or 2 grass greens - so take your pick !
-1 cafe and 2 restaurants.
-Their very own 'bowls shop' with much cheaper prices on things than we get here in SA - 'A Son' ended up buying a new pair of bowls shoes and a wet weather jacket - sold to him by none other than Leif Selby !!.
-Their own Gym.
-Their own travel agents office.
-Their own bottle shop.
-Several bars including sports bar/tab etc.
-200+ plus pokies (Obviously their biggest revenue)
-They have their own 'onsite' accommodation.

Basically you can go for a 'bowling' holiday and not have to leave the venue once !!
The food was so affordable it was ridiculous...lol.

I highly recommend any keen bowlers get over there one day if they haven't already O:)

Overall:
Was a great experience for the kids - they did SA proud - with some awesome bowling - some of the kids from interstate are 'freaks' - I have never seen such a high class of bowling before - was awesome to say the least.

Photos:
Some photos of the week O:)

There were some pretty tight heads - shots of some of the bowls

Nice bowling SA !!

A few extra

The cameras rolled up – they were on the NSW news – this is a shot of ‘A son’ nothing like having the cameras aimed at you when you’re already under pressure !! lol

A Son played against 'brother' Gingernuts today in the Great Southern versus River Murray game... he thought it was you to start with...lol.

You look very similar - especially with sunglasses on - you ever bowl/walk the same :D

I know - it went something along the lines of - 'A Son' asked him (who he thought was you) if he had new bowls

'brother gingernut' replied with "I think you're thinking of my brother"

'A Son' then asked "Are you twins"
'brother gingernut' replied with "No, and there's actually 3 of us"

Classic indeed - I got there for the afternoon session and I thought it was you also - then 'A Son' came up to me and said that's not GN it's his brother...and told me the whole story...lol.

Funny stuff :D

Anyway you have a young fan in 'A Son' he kept saying to me after bowls last week " 'GN' is such a nice person" O:)

'A Son' has made the final 24 for the round robin - Fleurieu/KI team - they are 'cutting' another 4 players next Sunday - he has U35 singles so I hope not going to the 'practice' doesn't affect his chances, I mean after all U35 is a state event - he bowled very well today so hopefully they 'saw enough' to include him. Time will tell.

O:)

If you knew how many times both of us have had that exact conversation on a bowls green.

"Hey ......"

"No, I'm ......."

"Gees, are you guys twins??"

"No, there's actually another one in between us"

I must admit, I do enjoy your son's company on the greens. He certainly knows his bowls. Hopefully we get to bowl together in one of these association games one of these days. Hopefully I'll get selected once people get to know me a bit better.

Went for a practice this morning before work down at Encounter Bay. I've been getting up early a couple times a week and getting some ends in in preparation for the U35's. Want to make sure I'm competitive, especially with the tough group I've drawn.

Yep - less than a week to go - you are very motivated if you are going before work - good stuff O:)

'A Son' just bowled yesterday for the 6th day straight - so think he's bowled out for a few days

See you around the forum and see you on Sunday O:)

Got through the first day of the Country Carnival 4's yesterday at Woodville.

2 wins and a draw in the sectional play, then a big win in the 1st knockout round.

Onto 3 knockout rounds at Grange on Thursday now (and I get another day off of work!). :D

Well done GN !! :D
What clubs did you play against?

'A Dad' played at Edwardstown - they won 2 of their games, but not the third so didn't get through.

Goodluck for Thursday O:)

Gees, good question.

Let me see - I think we played Bordertown, Koolunga (had to look on Google maps to find where that was!), and Crystal Brook in the sectionals.

Then Wirrula in the knockout (another place I'd never heard of before!).

Thanks A Mum, should be fun whatever happens. :D
