Davis Cup

Postby brod » Sat Mar 07, 2009 11:33 pm

THE shock selection of teenager Brydan Klein backfired yesterday as Thailand levelled its Davis Cup Asia-Oceania playoff against Australia in Bangkok at 1-1.

After Lleyton Hewitt had made short work of the opening rubber, 19-year-old Klein crashed to the Thai No. 1 Danai Udomchoke 6-2 6-2 7-5.

Klein is ranked 189th in the world, while his opponent is 155th.

Earlier, world No. 72 Hewitt downed world No. 891 Kittipong Wachiramanowong 6-3 6-2 6-1 in 83 minutes after dropping his serve in the opening game

Not a bad idea in giving Calvin a run. They'll win the doubles, and Lleyton will smash that bloke in the reverse singles....

This is embarrasing for a nation that has won the Davis Cup 28 times and been runner up 18 times. This tie is at the same level as Chinese Tapei vs India or Uzbekastan vs Korea

The next stop in Australia's Davis Cup journey is India, which defeated Chinese Taipei 3-2 on foreign soil.

The winner of that tie will play one of the eight first-round losers from this year's world group for a return to the elite section for next year's Davis Cup.

Klein should never have got the nod over the Gucc IMO.

Lucky to get over the line.

Why cant we dish up some decent players in the Men's draw.? Who are the next generation stars that will take us into the next 15 years?

Is Ivo Karlovic the modern day Roscoe Tanner?

78 aces in his match for Croatia in the Davis Cup against Czech Republic's Radek Stepanek but he still loses the match!!!!!!

2-2 now, with Luzak going down in 4! It all comes down to Carsten Ball to get the Aussies back in to the world group stage.
