DANNY GREEN VERSUS PAUL BRIGGS

Danny Green versus Paul Briggs july 21

Should be one of the best fights in OZ in recent times.
These two won't have to go looking for each other - both have similar styles: stand in front and throw bombs, both with great chins.

We all know Green , but Briggs twice fought Tomasz Adamek for a light heavy weight world title ( a real one IBF i think ). These two fights were given fight of the yr for the consecutive yrs they were fought. I saw Briggs at a Mundine fight on the Gold Coast and he is a unit.

I reckon this one will go 12 rounds and certainly won't dissapoint like some recent hyped up fights. This is what Aussie fight fans want and deserve the best fighting the best.

Agreed and good to see Danny Stepping up fighting quality fighters.

Complete non-event.

Would've been a good fight three or four years ago.

Briggs hasn't fought in three years and there's all sorts of rumours about his health.

Still, I guess it's better than finding opponents in retirement homes...

Apparently a neurosurgeon cleared him, but the fight commission did not.

Disagree, a lot world class fighters are in their early to mid thirties. Fighters in their late twenties are often reffered to as young and inexperienced. Boxing seems to be a sport that takes several years to develope the skills of the trade and fitness levels required to compete at the highest level.
Certainly would have been a good fight a few years back but i still think this has the potential to be a cracker and can't wait for it.

Not disputing any of that, Panther.

But Briggs has been inactive for three years and his comeback fight is for a (non-recognized) world title?

Not even a warm-up bout?

Let's just hope Briggs hasn't been sparring with ghosts after all...

Look Hurricane was a tougth nut but 3 years out of the ring and medicos not supporting his comeback he is what is termed a STIFF a human punching bag. His last fights prior to exiting the game where brutal and damaging for him as you get that when you leed with your jaw.

I just hope he gets through safe BUT dont portray this as a quality fight as all know it is far from.

I would agree that there is always doubt about whether any sportsman can come back after 3 years out of any sport, But I am going to give Briggs the benefit of the doubt as he would still be fit , would have had plenty of sparring and at the end of the day is a born fighter ( in and out of the ring ).
I think Green will win based on the fact he is a classier fighter and even 3 yrs back would have said the same. What excites me though is there is going to be 2 tuff blokes standing in the ring going at it . The cliche to use would be these two would fight in a phone box.
A question for shoe boy and maggie power what would be your current dream fights?

For me I would like to see,

Manny Pacqiao V Floyd Mayweather Jnr

Just for fun the 2 Kloitschko brothers at heavy weight.

And for us Aussies Danny Green get belted by Choco.

They are dreams shoe boy. Make for 3 great fights.

But,

Didn't Mayweather come up with some bogus reason to cancel and avoid fighting the Pac Man. To me this puts serious doubts on Mayweather's claims to being pound for pound the best.

The Klitscko's excuse for why the clearly best 2 heavyweights don't fight each other is they promised their mum they wouldn't - like she has never seen them go toe to toe before.

Certainly i think that green and mundine should fight again, but they will argue for an eternity over at what weight so it won't happen.

I would say the fight game is in a real lull at the moment. The heavyweight division is poor and the fact that we all keep watching the likes of Hopkins , Jones Junior and De la Hoya still going around promoted as the big fights just proves this.

Mayweather's got to the end of this week to agree to a November fight.

Wishful thinking.

Apparently, Pacquiao is gonna move up to Junior Middleweight after his next bout no matter what.

Possible rematch with Cotto.

Also puts him in the same division as Mundine.

And for us Aussies Danny Green get belted by Choco.

Again?

what an absolute joke... green after the fight was an angry man, and rightly so! Neiman threw some hell of punches and smashed the bloke! Was great to watch!

Empty grandstanding.

NSW Combat Sports Authority vindicated by this farce.

Oh for the day when Green fights someone who isn't over forty, washed-up or mentally unfit to be in the ring and gets...

KNOCKED THE **** OUT!

His wife is a skank glamour but...
