MLB 2018

Postby HH3 » Tue Feb 27, 2018 9:23 am

So Spring Trainings kicked off.

Thankfully, I get to watch the games on MLB.tv

The Astros bats are looking good. Yesterdays game against the Cardinals, we were 4-0 after the top of the first, and 6-0 up after the second.

Our prospects are looking good, and new Astro Cole Gerritt had a good start.

The rebuild the White Sox started three years ago starts to take shape this year.

Yoan Moncada will be fit to play a full season, huge wraps on pitching prospect Michael Kopech will lead a pen with some depth Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer and the likely return of Rodon.

Jiminez ( outfield ) and Kopech ( starter ) are both A grade prospects ( as in they're rated as potential stars ).

2018 will give White Sox fans reason to be excited about 2019 when the plan falls ( hopefully ) into place.

On Sunday I was watching the Astros and McCurry was pitching.

He was doing well. And I was wondering why I'd never heard of him.

One google search...

The White Sox kick off the season with a trip to Kansas City for 3 games before 3 games in Toronto against the Jays.

Massive building year for the South side with youth traded in over the last 2 years now being exposed to the majors.

And we are off.

As expected the Sox take the series 2-0 over the Royals, one game postponed due to extreme cold.

Currently taking on the Jays in Toronto.

Boston, Houston, Washington and Pittsburgh all with 3 or more wins in the 4 game series they played to kick the year off right.

Boston beating the Rays 1-0 in two of their games and 2-1 in the other doesn't bode well for them. The Rays are a shell of a team at the moment.

Houston looking good, especially with the bat when up in the count. Keuchel had a shakey first start, but Verlander and McCullers Jr had great starts.

In sequence.

Marwin Gonzales - Homer
McCann - Double (missed the homer by inches).
Fisher hits a triple. Sending McCann home.
Springer singles to send Fisher home.

Todays Astros/Orioles game.

Top of the 8th. Game tied at 5-5.

Springer hits an RBI double.
The Orioles pitcher walks the next two batters to load the bases.
Josh Reddick hits a 3-2 grand slam to put the Astros up 10-5.

The Orioles put another run on the board, with the game finishing 10-6 for the fifth Astros win of the season.

They play such an exciting brand of baseball. I've watched a couple of Red Sox games, and the standard is horrible in comparison.

@Booney

Do you watch many White Sox games?

I watched a couple of innings the other day. I like to keep up with my friends teams (at this point the pair of socks, White Sox, Red Sox and Athletics), and a couple of teams I have soft spots for (Rockies and Padres).

Looks like you guys have gone the farm system route, instead of trading.

Todays game was a bit rough, but it might pay off in the long run.

I watch the game feed when they're playing, I don't have the MLB pass, but should get it. I've got ESPN at home so get the odd game on there.

Yes, certainly went down the farm path, a plan that was put in place a year or two ago when trading out top end talent like Sale, Quintana, Frazier and Cabrera.

Post season action this year is unlikely, it's looking like '19 and '20 will be when the hard work at the farm pays off. Kopech (RHP #10 prospect), Moncada, Castillo and Avilan, Jiminez (OF #4 prospect), Hansen (RHP #54 ) Cease ( RHP #61 ) Dunning ( RHP #94 ) Rutherford ( IF #99 ) are all top 100 propects.

December 6, 2016
Traded Chris Sale to the Boston Red Sox. Received Luis Alexander Basabe (minors), Victor Diaz (minors), Michael Kopech (minors) and Yoan Moncada.

July 13, 2017
Traded Jose Quintana to the Chicago Cubs. Received Dylan Cease (minors), Bryant Flete (minors), Eloy Jimenez (minors) and Matt Rose (minors).

July 19, 2017
Traded Todd Frazier, Tommy Kahnle and David Robertson to the New York Yankees. Received Ian Clarkin (minors), Tito Polo (minors), Blake Rutherford (minors) and Tyler Clippard.

July 30, 2017
Traded Melky Cabrera and cash to the Kansas City Royals. Received Andre Davis (minors) and A.J. Puckett (minors).

December 1, 2017
Signed Welington Castillo as a free agent.

January 4, 2018
As part of a 3-team trade, traded Jake Peter (minors) to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Received Luis Avilan and cash from the Los Angeles Dodgers and Joakim Soria and cash from the Kansas City Royals. In addition, the Los Angeles Dodgers sent Erick Mejia (minors) and Trevor Oaks (minors) to the Kansas City Royals; and the Kansas City Royals sent Scott Alexander to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

I highly recommend MLB.tv.

I watch at least one game a night. And have games on while I work.

I listen to games in the car.

You can go halves with someone too, since it can be on two screens at once. I did it this season after the girl that goes for the Red Sox used mine for free last season.

Tim Tebow.

First AA at bat. First pitch. 3 run homer. Easy.

Also, CWS were leading 7-3 in the 8th. Currently in the 9th, Detroit have tied it up 7-7.
