Somewhat of a bump

Heading up to GC for the first time in August for my birthday for 4 days. Doubling over as our annual footy trip as the Crows are playing the Suns at Metricon that weekend.

Few debates already on which of the worlds to visit on the remaining days - Dreamworld and Movieworld appear to be the winners so far. Not too keen on water parks, but may spend a couple of hours at Whitewater World. However, judging by the comments on here I'll have to visit a few of the shopping malls as well.

Is Hooters still up there? Thought it burnt down some time ago but unsure if it was rebuilt.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

the only hooters i know of is on the Gold Coast Highway near Mermaid waters?

Drive past it on a regular basis. If you do one of the theme parks you can get a all theme park pass if you pay a little more. Your also coming up in august probably one of the best times as its just starting to get warmer here. Try Jupiters casino also no to bad.

the shopping centres arent that much to right home about. The pacific pines shops is probably bigger then Marion but its just the usual shops not much else.
try currumbim wild life sanctary if your into zoos or wild animals. Also Snow world is not that bad either.

If you're a member of RAA, you can get cheap passes for the parks I reckon. Pretty sure we did that when we went up a couple of years ago. You get a discount if you book the shuttle bus through RAA too if I remember correctly

As Ive said before we avoid the school holidays up there, accomodation is half the price and the crowds at the parks are non existant, you can walk onto any ride you like, some they just let you stay on if you want to go around again!

Agree with you about the Outback Spectacular, is a great night out and you get a good feed and would almost pay as much going out to a restuarant up there anyway. Its a good fun night with a serious story line

when is the best time to go there to avoid all of the school holidays? Easier to ask than look it all up.

Thanks for the tips. Animals/zoos aren't really my thing (didn't even bother with Taronga when I went to Sydney last year and haven't been to our zoo in about 15 years). Thanks for the shopping centre tips too. What are the trading hours for the shops anyway?

Snow World - now that sounds like my kind of thing :d

Sadly Snow World is no more :(

normal hours like in adelaide. But Coles and woolies dont open until 8am weekdays, not 5am or 6am like in adelaide. which annoys me alot as i like to do my shopping early and hate standing around with 100 other people at 8am still waiting for the shop to open.

Booked the flight back today - $121 from Brisbane on Virgin! Now I just have to get up there.

*Yes I know it's an 80km trip from Gold Coast to Brisbane, but looking at possibly spending that last day in Brisbane anyway.

Hopefully Virgin keep the sale fare up for another week - when we can afford to book the flights up there. If they don't put the Friday night flight on sale (currently $181), I might head up a night earlier (Thursday night is currently $121) as it'll probably be the same price overall by the time you factor in accommodation/hire car etc.

Alas those sale fares went back to $151 the following day, now Qantas have taken the lead for cheap flights (between $129-$137, depending on if I want to go Friday morning or Saturday morning). Hopefully they're still that cheap on Thursday when I book the flight up there.

Edit: Typical - the day I have the funds to book the flights Qantas jack the price up for $129 to $329 for the same flight! So I went back to Virgin, and now got the Thursday night flight up there for $151. Still, $282 is pretty cheap to get up there and back (and far cheaper than what I was looking at paying even last week).

Just booked the apartment - Palazzo Colonnades. $100/night for a 2 bedroom apartment, and a good rating on Trip Advisor. Can't go wrong.

I went to GC couple years back with GF and another couple
had an absolute blast.

went to jupiters which was bloody good, guy we went with won $900 on pokies so it was better for him.

went to movie and dream world, both were great but im not much of a rides man... still good tho!

cant remember the name of the apartment we stayed at but was a 2 bedroom with a living area and it was awesome. very handy and convenient for 2 couples and worked out pretty cheap.

would love to go again next year during footy season for 2 weeks to watch a game of footy while up there also.
