Bali/Phuket

Postby The Ash Man » Fri Aug 13, 2010 12:16 pm

Hey Travelites

I have just bought a weeks holiday in Bali as a surprise for the missus birthday ( yeh I know, how sweet!)

I havent been in about 6 years as I have preferred to do the Asian adventures since (backpacking China, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia)

Any one been there recently?

After some ideas of what to do and places to eat, drink.
Elephant Park will be on the list as she loves the things!
Possibly white water rafting

Also, whats the going rate for things like t-shirts, beer etc. these days?

Cheers

I went about 4 years ago now. Back then it was $1.10 for a Bintang and about $3 a T-shirt. Depends how much you want to barter. We did the Elephant Park for $100 if I remember right? Well worth it. With the dollar going great guns it'll be even cheaper. How much did you have to pay for your trip if you don't mind me asking Ashman? My missus and I are tossing up between Bali, Tassie or Perth for our next trip.

Bali's cheaper than Thailand for a reason just like the Bolivar Caravan Park is cheaper than Bali.

Do you prefer seediness or seclusion?

I previously stayed at Kata Beach right on the beach which I loved, am going next month for a couple of weeks and staying the first week up north near the airport and then a week at Karon Beach. Last place I'd stay would be Patong.

Probably seclusion, just want a relaxing holiday, nice pools etc. Not too far away from the action though as we like eating out, enjoy a few drinks at bars etc.

Kata Beach Spa and Resort, only 4 star but it's right on the beach with awesome views, Kata is a much nicer beach than Karon and Patong.
Only a $10 taxi fare to paying too.
I'll post some pics if you like.

I'm doing it 5 star this time and wanted to try some new spots but loved Kata.
Main reason we're not going back there is there weren't any family rooms available in the busy season.

If you want any more advice on where to stay, what to do, etc feel free to ask as besides being there I had to do extensive research to organize a trip there in he busy season at fairly short notice.

Cheers Wedgie.
I'll have a look at that place. Would be interested to see some of your pics.
Is there plenty of restaurants/bars/shopping around the kata area?
We don't want to be too far away from the 'action' but dont want to be kept up till 5 in the morning either hearing clubs/music etc. We are also heading to Krabi on this trip so will be doing a fair but of R&R there.
Any tips on day trips? Must do's?
We were recommended some 4* places too in phuket by travel agent. The Centara Karon Resort, Horizon Karon Resort and Banthai Resort in Patong. Do u know anything about these places?
