Looking at going to Tasmania late next year with the camper trailer wife and 3 kids (7, 4, 1) I have a few ideas on where I want to go but would be open to any suggestions from people who have been places and enjoyed those places. Thanks.

Anywhere in Tassie with a campervan is good.

You'll enjoy it.

You're looking at the Tassie Queen right here.

Love the place, would move there in a heart beat.

I have a heap of Tassie info I've collected from my many trips there at work, so PM me if you want anything specific Rams...

No matter where you go, the seafood is excellent.

The Swansea hotel on the east coast did (ten years ago now) arguably the best value seafood platter I've ever had.

What's that one, FC?

I've done a half-day boat trip from Strahan, good experience.

This one only goes at dusk and goes to look at penguin colonies but also old convict ruins as well.

You might have done either Gordon river cruises or world heritage cruises R&B.

I'm going on the World Heritage cruise, free of charge..it's nice to work in the business ;) 8)

Things we did whilst touring Tassie about 10 years back which were fun included:

Tour of Boags Brewery
Visited the "Pub in a Paddock" for lunch.
Port Elliot
Tiger snake & Tassie Devil farm, actually patted a tiger snake.
Speed boat ride in Strachan.
Great seafood dinners in Bicheno, Strachan & Hobart.
Lots of hiking & waterfalls.

Did so much in 12 days. Just visiting places and talking to people, met the nicest person who owned a strawberry farm outside of Bicheno.

DO NOT'S: Order a boags in Hobart and say "This tastes better than that Cascade crap".
Mention how good Ricky Ponting is in the Strachan pub, they hate him but love Boony.

Funniest moment: We stayed in a bed and breakfast in Killynaught, and had to check in at "Reception". This consisted of an old red phone box out the front from which we had to call the owner, who then drove 25km's to drop off the key.

If you've only got 5 days you actually wont see much, despite zeeing lots if that makes sense..lol

If youre going with Thea, she will probably want to see the markets, which will take up a Sat morning. You're looking at about a 4.5 hour drive to Strahan on the West Coast each way and you need to stay there for two nights to get the most out of it. Its a shit of a drive but beautiful at the same time

The World Heritage Cruise is the pick of the bunch here. FAMILY OWNED COMPANY as opposed to Gordon River cruises which is govt owned. If you can do the west coast wilderness railway, do it. Its amazing and leaves you in awe of how the hell people managed to build such structures over 150 years ago.

Give me a call if you want help with a plan of action to get the most out of your 5 days.

Thanks, have just realised today 5 days ain't going to be enough! Oh well, looking at 2 nights to start in Hobart, then to Strahan for the cruise, was looking at WHC so thats good info. Then across the north and end up in Coles Bay and back to Hobart.

Going to be a bit I wanted to see that we won't however leaves time for another trip!

That is a lot of driving from the west coast to the east coast. Driving in Tasi is not like the mainland hills, winding roads and log trucks slow you down. very few overtaking lanes.

It's only the west coast that screws you, the rest of the state is pretty good for driving
