Perth

I am heading to Perth for a few days, heading to freo for a look at the prison and maritime museum, any other suggestions about what to see and do?

I haven't been for just over 10 years, but the zoo was awesome..
Also the mint is worth a look.

On a side note, after todays soccer results, it looks like I'm Perth bound in a couple of weeks :D :D

Scarborough is nice except it is like being in a time warp to the 80's

Yes and how much time have you got? Would do the above but leave out Rottnest.

You'll also need to give yourself a healthy food budget.

Drive around the Swan valley region- some good wines and some excellent breweries. Also, Little Creatures and the Freo wharf.

I had my first dip in the Indian Ocean last week da. Bewdiful. But no, "Rotto" as they call it here has crumbling infrastructure I've been told, very expensive to get there and back for a day. If Brad's on a time limit, I'd give it a miss in favour of all of the other suggestions on here.

I've actually heard the same about Rottnest unfortunately.

Whatever you choose to do, you can do it without a car, their public transport system is one of the best I've ever come across!

Having never been to Rotto, this is handy advice. Happy to spend more time at the little creatures brewery!

Doubt you'll recognise the place, the city skyline for a start. The new BHP building is just about finished and will make quite a statement once the signage is up.

Sure does. We have been a part of the Fiona Stanley Hospital out at Murdoch, been past that monolith at any point?

I'm working on a project for BHP so will come to know it very well come the middle of the year.

Brad/mickey have a feed at the Subiaco Hotel while you're here in the restaurant. Pricey but very nice.

I have moved over here recently and after 6 months absolutely love the place. Best weather I have come across anywhere in Australia and the general laid back attitude of locals whilst @ first can be very frustrating is a welcome change to everywhere else I have been in our great country.

It's worth the flight, best Capital City in Australia imo....

Best Things;

Weather
South Coast Scenery
EPL on Primetime
Roads are amazing
Public Transport
Busselton, Margaret River, Albany and Swan Valley are stunning
Local economy is outstanding, people are not affraid to spend and spend heaps.....
Best Beaches in Australia
NOVA morning radio show

Worst Things;

Eagles premiership talk
Cost of living is outrageous
Sharks :?
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

Nice beaches.

Agree with that.

It's not a tourist destination but there's a really nice botanical putt putt just north of Joondalup - assume it's still open as admittedly I haven't been there for 8 years.
Their trains are unbelievable and they make it easy to get around and there is now a line to Mandurah.
War Memorial on the Eastern side of King's Park is good and it also makes for a great view and think the ferry trip along the Swan from the City to Fremantle (you can easily spend a whole day walking around Fremantle) is definitely worth doing.
Favourite pub in my time there was the Paddington Alehouse in Mount Hawthorn and if you're into that sort of caper, Perth's answer to the 'Arkaba' is the Old Bailey in Joondalup.

Can see myself continually adding to this post  .
