Singapore

Wife and I haven't been on a plane and explored somewhere new for almost six years and need to get out of the country, but will have the now and 5 and 2 year olds in tow. Looking at October, direct flights each way as it'll be firs time for the kids so don't want to transit anywhere if we can avoid. Settled on Singapore. 10-12 days, obviously a slower place than we used to when travelled in our 20s.

Looking at five nights in the city, five nights on Sentosa Island then a night at Marina Bay Sands just because.

Any tips on hotels/timelines/things to do or avoid/travelling with kids would be great. I'm still deciding between either dreading or loving holidaying with kids.

Have been to Singapore plenty and although we love it I think 4 days tops is more than enough but with kids you could extend that by a few days no problems.
The MBS is a great hotel, I didn’t the rooms were overly great but you are paying for the access to the infinity pool and it’s views. You have a decent shopping complex and casino as part of the precinct and get to see a great light show at night. Sentosa is good for kids so you have made the right call there and I’d definitely head out to the zoo. It’s one of the better zoos going around. I’d recommend going to the Gardens by the Bay and staying for the light show, it’s pretty amazing and it’s not too long where kids get bored. Use the PT as much as possible as it’s fast, efficient and cheap but download the Grab app as they are the best mode of car transportation in Singapore. The Hop on Hop off bus is pretty good for kids too, it’s a bit more expensive but takes you past some decent scenery and the two routes intersect and are very regular so easy to swap between the two all day or even longer if you get the pass. Plenty of good eating especially around Clark Quay but the night hawker stalls are a must. Will start to get wet by the end of October but the rain clears pretty quickly and doesn’t prevent you from going about your activities

Haven't been to it, but apparently the Legoland (just past the border into Malaysia) is good for kids. I believe they have transit buses that take you there and back from Singapore.

As previously mentioned, the zoo is excellent. I have done the "night safari", but preferred just doing a normal visit during the day.

The MBS is overrated, but I'll never forget swimming in that pool.

As a couple, I reckon 4 nights would be more than enough in Singapore and definitely the same at Sentosa, but with 2 kids the extra day might be handy.

Most things are close, so getting around is quite easy and inexpensive.

Major bummer about Singapore is its price of alcohol, but with 2 young kids that won't be an issue.
