My daughter is looking for her first car.

She desperately wants a Holden Cruze hatch. I have read the reviews and the Aus built hatch isn't bad. Looking around the 7k mark.

I wonder if anyone has any thoughts/reviews on them as a second hand car.

Other options we're looking at, Corolla hatch, Lancer sedan or hatch, Mazda3 hatch.

I stress, we're not going to buy a car now as she's 15y 5m, but we want to narrow the field by weeding some of these options out.

Without looking at exact models / k's / condition I'd lean towards the Corolla or Mazda 3, but given you're spending $7k you'll get something pretty decent in any of those models. The Lancer would be the last of those 4 I'd look at.

Check out the ReDriven youtube channel.

He does a review on a second hand Cruze. From memory, not great.

Thanks mate, I hadn't heard of ReDriven before. I watched the video. Their comment "nup, no, nada, don't". The mechanic "They're sh*t" was his first sentence. Hmm.

Thanks, end of story! We'll look at something else.

Edit: I've just watched the ReDriven reviews on the Mazda3 and I've added in the i30 as they look the best of the options remaining.

Picked up a 2022 Ford Wildtrak about 4 weeks ago.

Going from the 2020 version to this feels like jumping 10 years in tech.

Yet to take it offroad, but if I took the 2020 on a few fully offroad trips, and if its anything like that one, itll do anything I want it to do.

Now just looking for a cheap 4x4 that I can tinker with and chuck a shitload of Kings stuff on so I can do some dodgy offroading without worrying about rolling the bastard.

Was gazing out the window at my workplace, and running my eye's over the cars in our carpark.

Of the 50 or so cars I can see, only 1 is a Holden. You would not have said that 10-15 years ago. We just don't make them here anymore.

At a rough estimate I think I can see Toyota with the largest representation in our car park, followed by Hyundai. Then Nissan, Mazda on the next line.

An interesting sample of the car market share.
1961, 1971, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2008, 2013, 2014, 2015.... And don't you forget it!

How many of them are SUV / truck / people movers?

The abundance of large cars on the road astounds me with the way the modern world is, emissions, fuel costs etc.

They are a status symbol for the vast majority of their owners, most 4WD/truck owners wouldn't have been on dirt/sand other than a day at Silver Sands with their pompous arse dog shitting gourmet food all over the joint.

I'll never understand why families who don't need an SUV sized car actually buy one. It's a pain in the arse on fuel, parking, etc.
I can't wait until we can down size that bitch.

Well diesel is a lot more expensive than petrol when it shouldn’t be.

We ended up going with a Mazda3 SP23 auto hatch. It's done a lot of kms but is mechanically very sound.
