I don't think there would be any more deserving winner of the first Jason Richards Trophy than Jason Bright and the whole of Team BOC

not trying to start an argument, but dont the cars in V8 supercars have to resemble sedans? they certainly used to be. i would have thought that would exclude the two door mustang. unless they plan on changing the rules (if in fact the rule still exists). if so, bring on the camaro!!

Pretty sure it just has to be a car that is available in Australia. With the Falcons being obsolete, maybe they'll be shipping in Mustangs as a replacement in the market. Hence being allowed to race them in the V8s.

Camaros probably wouldnt be brought in unless ordered specifically for customers until the Commodore goes out of production.

i had heard a rumour about the mustang returning through dealerships after falcon dies, and i think its good, i doubt that the camaro will ever be sold here, chev in the states have repeatedly stated that they wont engineer it for right hand drive :(. i had forgotten about the available in australia rule too, cheers for reminding me :)

but i am sure that at the very least the rules used to state that the cars had to be based on sedans. hence why no holden team started running the monaro when it was available, and why nissan or merc arent running one of their available coupes (370z for example)

and before anyone points it out, yes i am aware that years ago monaros did race (along with falcon coupes/hardtops). i am referring to the V8 supercar era, where only sedans have competed.

edit, found this from the attached link: "The cars will still feature V8 engines, rear-wheel drive and four doors" unless they change that last bit, i dont see the mustang competing

Id say it'd be practically the same as the coupe with a little more room in the back. Probably stretched out a bit to accommodate.

Was the Charger out as a two door before the four door came out?

I reckon the Mustang would be almost identical in performance to the coupe. Might just be a bit heavier.

the "new" charger (ie the current one, if they still make it) was never a 2 door as far as i am aware. but traditionally (ie 40 years ago) they were only ever a 2 door. think dukes of hazard general lee. there was a massive gap where there was no charger and the name was only brought back relatively recently on the 4 door.

to my eyes that mustang photo does look a little longer than the 2 door, but that could just be me. not that it looks bad, just different. and yes, id expect performance to be on par. and you might be surprised, quite often the two door version of a car is actually heavier than the 4 door. they sometimes need more bracing to keep them rigid, whereas the 4 door has an extra pilar for that. i think the modern monaro was heavier than the sedan equivelant. (i could be wrong though) the longer wheelbase (if it has one) can help with cornering stability too, make it less likely to swap ends. not that that will be a factor in V8 supercars, they all run the same control chassis now and therefore the wheelbase will be identical to the existing cars.

Ive been looking at costs of importing a Mustang and getting it converted to right hand drive, coz you can pick up a basic model for $22,000. If shipping and the conversion were around $18,000, it would be totally worth it.

actually, after reading more on that link, it an april fools joke. no wonder i hadnt heard of it. seems that the only plans for a four door mustang exist on the internet in an april fools joke that did the rounds on a few forums.

maybe my point still stands, there would need to be rule changes for the mustang to compete in V8 supercar

(or for the 4 door mustang to be more than bullshit)

You can look down the telescope of time and see that V8 supercars will eventually have no Fords or Holdens... :(

It won't be worth watching.

Australia should be racing in a world 4 cylinder event.

Sorry, V8's are going to be history.

The world has changed.

Is an American Ford, worth cheering for in Aussie V8 Super Cars.

What if Holden fold in Australia...?

We are not going to cheer for Chevrolet..!
Smile :)

It's only Money $$$ :)

What is happening to our SANFL guys...
