if they did go to a old v8 supercar block they wouldn't need to change that much. wouldn't need to upgrade to the new brakes rims or tyres. brakes where only upgraded because they have gotten rid off the water cooling system, which resulted in new rims to fit the size of the breakes. I don't know why you would need to upgrade the tyres. If they did go to a supercar motor it would have to be detunned as it would kill the holden's. I actually think it would kill ute racing altogether, the utes have something special in them still being road driven utes, you change to more racing specific cars and there will be no difference between the utes and v8's
lol, give the fords access to the GS, and holdens access to the Maloo (or do holden still do a GPX or whatever it was called?), problem solved! 5.0 litre supercharged vs 6.2 litre naturally aspirated. might see the lap times tumble, or just a hell of a lot more wheel spin and sideways action!
i agree about the change taking the attraction away from the series. a big part of it for me is that they are pretty much the exact utes you can (or could) buy with minimal safety upgrades (i have a VE SSV myself). the suggestion i heard was that they were looking at changing it to future proof the series in case the commodore utes and falcon utes were no longer available (as is beginning to happen) and move it into a sort of third teir of the supercars, kinda like nascar have the main series, second teir and then the "trucks" as a third teir.
it would allow other makes to join in (maybe toyota with hilux, nissan with navara etc) and allow holden ford to stay in of they no longer had the utes they have now (go to colorado, ranger etc). it is all speculation though, and i am not sure on the reliability of the source of my info, so it may not happen at all. in a way i hope it doesnt, i love the series as it is, but i also dont want to see the series stop altogether. will be interesting to see where they go with it.
