Toyota Prado

Any Toyota Prado owners in here?

Looking for a new (or near new) car. The Prado and the Pajero are two that I'm considering.

Owners/Mechanics/Salespeople let me know your love/horror stories for these vehicles or recommendations for similar!

My brother purchased a new Prado in 2011. Simply, he just loves it, and so do I when I get to drive it!!

Big gutsy truck that is great around the city and he makes use of it's ample off road capabilities. I'll ask him to write a little review.

I have a Prado, and it came down to the same 2 cars you are considering when I was looking.

My brother lives in Mildura, works in the horticulture industry.

Negative is wait till the free trade agreements cut in, as tariffs on Toyota will come down.

I have no negatives, other than the passenger seat should also be height adjustable for tall people as the driver seat is.

Depending on model and drive away totals, luxury car tax applies, so add nothing to the car until after you leave the dealer, or 45% tax may apply to even the car mats.

Your trade in price will be greater, depreciation will be less on the Prado.

All Elders stock agents have just returned all Pajero’s and now run Prado’s. coz they driv'em like they stole'em. This was a good thing for me to see here in Mildura as they would do a lot of off road or dirt road miles, the Pajero fell apart with the vibrations and broke from the same punishment.

To date no Prado has been the same.

So sure you will get more bells and whistles on the Pajero, but you will lose more as soon as you drive out the door.

My VX at about 120,000km no problems at all, one set of tyres at about 70,000 – 80,000, $63,950, 12 month reg and a tank of fuel, total on road cost after extras $70,000. Bull bar, tow bar, winch, UHF. These will change total cost depending on extras and their costs.

I see more Prado’s than Pajero’s on farms so remote access to spare parts, I would put money on Toyota being in stock!!!!

Had a good offer. 2014 Prado GXL, $60K driveaway.

Wont have to pay luxury car tax which is a bonus.

Not sure whether to trade or privately sell my current car, a 2009 Build (first reg July 10) Holden Captiva LX in black with 100K on the clock. Anyone here want it?

And thanks for the info Booney appreciate it. Im only an hour away from Mildura, so might drop in and see that dealer at some stage.

From a material perspective I think the Pajero is a horrible looking vehicle.
From a practical perspective, I think the top gear guys described the Toyota as boring because nothing goes wrong.
With my mechanical skills im happy to be bored.
