Ok so not that you all care but I called the motor reg office and got all the info I needed.
Since its registered I can drive it back and get it inspected at Regency for the ID check then in to motor reg office with paper work and money.

A mate of mine living in Adelaide bought himself a second-hand Porsche from the dealership in Melbourne.
Once he'd looked at it on the 'Net, had the RACV inspect it, and negotiated an agreement on price, subject to final test drive, they flew him over for the test drive and put him up in a nearby hotel. He got a much better deal than he could in Adelaide too.

The only question I have is about the vic plates. Do we just hang on to them or surrender them to SA motor reg?

Be careful I did this, and found the Vic third party insurance was invalid once I left the state as I bought it using S.A. Address. Should have used a Vic address.

Service SA will take them off your hands, give you a receipt and notify the interstate authority that you have surrendered them.
My biggest piece of advice for anyone purchasing a used car from interstate or SA, particularly if it's a private sale, do a Personal Property Security Register (PPSR) check, pay the few dollars and get it done for piece of mind, it will let you know if it's been recorded as a written off vehicle, if it's reported stolen etc.

So the PPSR check was easy enough done. Im fact if you get an RAA comprehensive check done on it, then it comes as part of the package.
