Started doing more weights this month. Previously I have only been doing cardio training and have noticed a big difference. Only 1.9 kgs loss, but very happy as I have been pretty lazy the last week with a fair bit of junk food and no training! If I can put in 4 solid weeks training and get a little bit more disciplined with the diet, I hope to get under the 100 mark this month!

Not going to happen!!

I started this month very well but got crook early on and didn't train for over a week. Had a bad cold and was absolutely exhausted when I got home from work so generally just flaked out. I weighed myself and had ballooned out to 105.8 mid month. Once I felt a little bit better I got back into it and clawed my fitness back. It was amazing to see how quickly it goes when you stop training...

Anyway, I had a pretty full on cardio session on wednesday and weighed myself and had got down to 102.5. I didn't train Thursday but had a big weights session with my PT yesterday. Woke up very sore and struggling to walk so I went to the gym and did some cardio today at about 75% to try to get rid of some of the soreness. Weighed myself and I am now at 103.7!!!!

I am baffled that I have put on 1.2kg in about 60 hours considering I have trained twice in that time. I haven't eaten anything too bad (ie Maccas, pizza, KFC etc) in that time. Is there any experts out there that can possibly explain this to me? Is it because of the weights?

Righto! Went to the gym again yesterday and weighrd myself .... 103.6! A massive drop of 100grams from Saturday.

Just got back from the gym tonight ...... 102.1!!!

Amazing how my weight can change from day-to-day-to-day!!

like I said mate weigh yourself in the morning. it's the only way to get a true indication. I think you would find if you weighed yourself in the morning you could be a lot lower then 102. If your weighing yourself during the day you have to remeber that the food and what you've drank during day could still be sitting there adding extra weight and giving you a false reading.

And there's not much point in weighing yourself everyday, or even every week.

Thanks guys!

I generally only weigh myself a couple of times a month .... I have only been doing it the last few days due to having a higher than expected weight for the month. Its just reassuring to know that despite having a fairly ordinary month I'm still heading in the right direction!

I strictly do it no more than once a week. Doing it daily only places undue pressure for instant change. Once a week allows you to track progress without to feel ing like you're excessively on the scales.

monday morning is good it let's you know how your week went and things you need to keep doing or cut out. After a couple of months you will find out what you can and can't do. On the other hand though if you havent got a high motivation level I would suggest once a month, sometimes people see a 2-3kg loss and go i'll have take away today i deserve it cos I lost 2-3kgs last week.

Obviously you're interested in completing the 75km course, but I think that, in regards to weight loss, it would be beneficial to include 'sprint periods' within your current course. Eg. within a 40km course complete 4-5 1km gut-busting sprints, with one of them toward the finish.

This should prompt your body to continue to burn energy for at least a couple of hours after the exercise.

Interesting, I do most of my riding in the hills so regularly get the heart racing going up and down hills which would be the same wouldnt it?

I do ride to the city to work 1-2 times a week and the ride in (18km) is downhill initially so I am working real hard to try and beat my best time door to door, which currently stands at 45 min (includes stoplights etc)

The high intensity interval training would require something like:

30 seconds normal speed
followed by 30 seconds sprinting (~90-95% max capacity)

and repeat it 8-10 times successively. Essentially it only takes up an 8-10 minute chunk of your ride.

If you could incorporate this into every ride, not only would you get weight loss benefits, but also overcome any fitness plateaus.

I've ordered an interval timer for myself to help me with the accuracy of the splits.
