No - I've heard it does work, though. Also, I think you may be able to get some of the fee back from Medicare.

My grandmother had hypnotherapy to give up smoking.

From the day she had it until the day she died (17 years) she never again smoked - not even one cigarette.

O:)

Gave them up "cold turkey" 30 years ago and haven't looked back. Used to work for a cigarette company, got them for free and smoked 30-40 a day.
Best thing I ever did was see the end of them.

well i went cold turkey back in 2003, stayed off them for nearly 4 years, though i would have the odd one every few months, then thanks to going to the footy with a smoking mate,(the one who has recently been hyp'd) i started smoking on weekends and went from there, bloody idiot i know, i seriously doubt i could go cold turkey at this stage, hence the shrink option

I tried hypnotherapy to help get rid of migraines, absolute biggest crock of sh1t Ive ever encountered personally in my life.
I think the rules for mumbo jumbo being covered by Medicare changed as I was told to get in quick last year before it'd cost me anything.

You'll have a lot more luck going cold turkey and using some will power.

Don't they say that some people 'cant' be hypnotised?

So my understanding is hypnotherapy doesn't work on everyone anyway.

just don't buy them.

If you don't have access to them you won't smoke them.

The willpower from stopping yourself handing over the money for cigarettes hopefully gets you through.

My mum is a volunteer for QUIT and does seminars etc as she was a pack a day for 35 years and one day when no-one told her to stop just cold turkeyed.

She got told 10 years ago she has 5 years to live.

Now she's doing great.

Good luck Stampy, I hope you give them up.

Plenty have had you though !! ;)
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Went cold turkey and haven't looked back, 28 days ago today...

Will power mate, I know i is hard but I just decided that I couldn't afford it anymore, the wife was constantly nagging me about it and realised it was no bloody good for my health.

It has been tough the last few weeks being told I have to have a knee reconstruction I've been stressed out and wanted one, also getting on the turps last weekend wa shard with the cravings there also.

Just be confident in your own ability to do and do it...

"GOLD CHOCCIES!"

On me... 20-odd smokes a day, have no desire to stop...

Have done month long stints of not smoking at all... generally a mate "betting me" that I don't have the willpower...

Might stop one day... When I can't afford it anymore...

I write from theory only, because I got through about three cigarettes in my entire life, in puffs here and there between the ages of 10 and 11.
It is getting past the first two weeks that is the first step. That is the stage of actual withdrawal from the chemical addiction..
By the end of that time the inter-nerve transmitter Acetyl Choline's production should be back to normal after being suppressed by the inhaled Nicotine.

After that you are fighting habit.
Give yourself something else to do with your fingers instead of reaching for the pack.
Adopt strategies to divert your attention in situations when you would normally light one up - think ahead and get in first before the habit bites.

Hypnotherapy works for some people and not others.
Some people can give up their need to feel in total control and go under more easily than others.
[I can't do it myself - so I'd make a hopeless subject for a Hypnotherapist.]

Heh M.P. Just out of interest, why do you have no interest in stopping? Not worried about the potential health issues? Just interested to know.

I just enjoy it...

About 18 months or so ago, I was struggling financially, and often had run out of smokes, and couldn't afford to buy them...

So I didn't smoke- so I am pretty sure I would have no problem quitting...

I just enjoy it...

When I don't enjoy it, I'll stop... ;)

I used to smoke 20-30+ a day but gave up almost exactly 7 years ago using the Nicorette gum. Just followed the instructions on the pack and didn't have too much trouble with it and no relapses at all.

Had tried a couple of times previously without success but I think that was because I was doing it for others more than for myself. This time I was giving them up only because I wanted to and not because of pressure from anyone else...reckon that made a huge difference and was the reason I managed to do it. Still get the occasional craving even now but all the smoking bans everywhere make it so much easier to avoid temptation.

Good luck

JAS

I don't find it hard to believe at all.

i enjoyed it to.... only gave it to get rid of a cough that wouldn't go away after my last sinus infection.

I've come to the theory that not smoking doesn't make me feel any better than smoking did - I don't feel healthier in any case.

All I'm doing is eating more (which is something I really can't afford to do) and being the evil moody bitch from hell

Don't listen to these do-gooders that have never smoked and wouldn't bloody know.

I've been there and done that - and if you enjoy it - keep doing it.

When you stop enjoying it - stop. Simple.
