In another moment of madness, I have agreed to run The North Face 50 next year in May in the Blue Mountains.
I hear it has a similar elevation gain to Yurrebilla but the climbs are much steeper. Looks like I will be adding some more elevation gain to my weekly training!
Has anyone run this race before? If so, any tips?

Did the TNF 50km ultra in the Blue Mountains on Saturday. Absolutely loved the course and the event. By far the best ultra I have done so far. Finished in 7:20 so pretty happy with that.

Is anyone training for anything at the moment?

Not sure if 'training' is the appropriate word, but keen to do the Adelaide HM again in August, so doing 15-20km a week just to build up a fitness base. I'm just a plodder but enjoy it nonetheless.

You?

Yeah I do most HMs in SA if time and schedule permits, but currently I'm training or Yurrebilla 56k trail in September.

Good stuff. I've been doing a few 10k events lately too just building back up again to longer distances. It is a fun distance. Not too long and not too short.

The last 3 or 4 k's would be a Cliffy Young shuffle to be fair!

How about you MW?

Aiming to you Yurrebilla 56km again. Would be my 5th go at it but had a couple of years off with injury. Also doing the 10km SARRC triple crown series this year which has been fun.

Nope. I'm crazy but not that crazy...that one is for the short, light people. No way this 6'2" 90kg body is lasting that long.
I did the 56km Yurrebilla 2 weekends ago, that's long enough for me.

Eliud Kipchoge broke the 2 hour mark for the marathon on the weekend. Whilst not officially recognized as a world record ( pace setters, track ) it's simply unbelievable.

Consider this. He did 100m in 17 seconds. A fair pace, for most people beyond their reach.

He then did it 422 times in a row.

The challenge I ask anyone when talking about this is to sprint for 100m at that pace like you said... I run a lot and I can barely get near it. It is phenomenal.
Would love to see someone do it in a race though. I don't mind the pacers but the bit that I didn't like was the reverse 'V' formation by the pacers which took all wind out and gave a nice drag.

Absolutely, the whole thing was set up for him to do it, but nonetheless it's amazing.

I'd say 80% of the population, or more, wouldn't be able to do a 17 second 100m once.
