Amber Necklaces

Postby Mythical Creature » Wed May 30, 2012 12:39 pm

Has anyone had any experiences with the amber necklaces or even the bracelets. We have a nearly 6 month old at home who is starting to give us a bit of troubles with his teething and we would try nearly anything at the moment.

These necklaces claim to be great for teething babies, and allegedly the babies don't realise they're teething.

Naturally I'm a bit sceptical and am wandering if these are similar to the power band bracelets that were the rage a couple of years ago, but proven to be nothing more than a placebo.
Can stuff like this have a placebo affect on babies?

i think (and am happy to be corrected) that a placebo works on an adult as they believe that they are taking a drug, or performing an action, or wearing something that will help them. their mind fully believing that they are getting better, masks the problem, or even actually "makes" you better. (laymans terms, i am sure Psyber can give a better/more accurate description)

however as a baby wont know what the necklace/bracelet is supposed to be for, they cannot be affected by a "placebo" effect. if the amber actually makes a difference it would have to have a medical reason for it.

this is all just my understanding, i have not actually heard of that solution so i dont know of the actual effect of it, but let me know how you go, we have another junior tipper due in october so i may need some tips for then!

Are they supposed to chew on them or wear them?

Wear them. I only came across them today, and for 20 bucks I'm seriously considering trying it. I just don't get how or why they work.
Might bite the bullet then do a report in the test dummies thread!

I don't know about amber necklaces but the best teething gel you can get is from the pharmacy at the W&CH.
Comes in small bottles and I think you can buy three at a time, knocks the stuff you buy from the chemist for six.
We've used it with both of our kids and soothes them very quickly.

We've been using that, can get it from Terry White's chemist in Gawler too. Just frustrating, cause the little guy was sleeping through no probs until the last few weeks.

100ml, the baby would be paro! Dipping the dummy in some bourbon worked for us, they tend to find a toy, phone or something that's soothing for them and it quietens them down though.

OK you have me really interested from a number of areas. Also being old, I can also speak from experience.

BC is right for the tooth thing in my experience:
The last resort is dump the dummy into the Bourbon you drink ( guess what........... they drink it with me now)

However, the story does not stop there, fortunately I have had a 4 decade experience exposure to Amber.

After my observations from Eastern Europe to the Hindu Cush do not underestimate its affects.

All of my family are covered by this and it really works, young or old it affects the individual to calm them down. ........SHHH do not tell Psyber.

Also a note to others Amber in a good way of calming the OS
