Health Issues

I've come across a few interesting ones in my recent reading:

1. Coffee helps prevent Alzheimer's Disease - you need 5 cups a day and it is the caffeine that matters so no decaf!
This is interesting because medical authorities have tended to warn people off too much coffee.

2. WHO declares diesel fumes a cancer causing agent on par with Asbestos - that would apply to bio-diesel too.
This has been long-disputed by the industry, but burning complex fuels does mean incomplete oxidation occurs.
(Wood burning may be next - but I guess it is not all over our roads and cities.)

3. Ecstasy is not "safe". This is no surprise but the myth is now busted.
Ecstasy-induced heart failure
THREE cases of significantly delayed acute coronary syndrome and ST-elevation myocardial infarction after ecstasy use have been reported in Emergency Medicine Australasia. The authors said although acute coronary syndrome was recognised after cocaine and methamphetamine use, an association with ecstasy use had rarely been reported. They wrote that onset of symptoms was delayed in all three cases. They noted that ecstasy was perceived as a “safe” drug, but there was increasing literature on its toxicity, including cardiovascular effects.

PS: here are the links to thhe other issues -
Coffee issue: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/765781
Diesel issue: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-06-13/d ... ic/4068414

Feel free to make of it what you will.
I agree medical opinion may change as studies are repeated, and bigger studies may have more validity

This is typically why the average Joe ignores health warnings in the main, for in 3 years time a study completely contradicting the previous study issues its findings.

I've got a suggestion, regarding health issues...

Don't bite your lip hard enought to take a chunk out, which in turn causes you to crush a salivary gland, which in turn causes a mucocele cyst, which in turn requires another chunk taken out of your lip and 4-5 stitches...

Brought you your friendly neighborhood d*ckhead who will soon be having half his lip removed.

Ok, not really half a lip, but you get the picture...

I know coffee's bad for those poor bastards waiting for beers at pubs and to pay for petrol at petrol stations or trying to buy a sandwich at a deli.
**** off to coffee shops coffee drinkers or do it the old fashioned way and make it yourself.

For the last 2 or 3 weeks I've had a burning sensation on the left side of my back.

A google search indicates it may be Sciatica :?

I was getting Sciatica in my lower back last year, it wasn't a burning sensation though, it was a thorough ache which usually set it during the first quarter of umpiring, having to do up to 6 games a weekend it became a nightmare, I got told to have absolute rest for a few weeks to get rid of it, it stuck with me til the season ended.

For my back? LOL. No I didn't, just gave it a dose of voltaren gel each time before exercise.

The type of sensation depends on which of nerve fibres in the nerve itself are being pinched and how tightly.
The location of the pain is what tells the doc which nerves roots are involved, and therefore at what level of the spine the injury is.
Sciatic nerve irritation usually involves the sensation also running down the back of the leg.

good luck getting rid of it, I have had 2 fractures in my L5 & when it goes, f**k me, does it hurt! Lasts for a couple of days, can't get up, sit down, fart, cough, cum, roll over. Had stacks of second opinions, finally told the other day there is nothing that can be done, just lessen the discomfort by strengthening the core muscles & take pain killers. cool.

2 or 3 Mersyndols before bed helps.

Thanks Psyber.

Yes, I read a little last night when doing a search, that it often goes down the leg too, so for that reason I have some doubts if its what I have, as it hasn't gone further down the body for me.

I'm going to head to the Doc to see what they think.

and you get it deep down in your bum cheek, hurts a lot, some say the way to alleviate the pain is with hard, intense deep massage but I think that would hurt too much. :(
