It can be done - you just need to hold it up at the right altitude and adjust the angle.
My 30 year old Sony Walkman worked yesterday in the hills to hear the Norwood match.
Let's see - it was about 800mm above the floor, its back pointing roughly west and propped at about a 45 degree tilt towards the west with a cardboard box.
It took me a couple of minutes to find the critical operating position close enough to the desk for me to connect it to my powered PC speakers.
[I couldn't get on to 5RPH at the time - their servers were maxed out.]

Good Work Psyb ... lovin' the fact your 30 yo walkman is still going strong (dont know whether I'd admit it out loud though LOL :)
RIP my DH 1964 - 2009 - You were one of the best and I miss you

Lunchie, I rarely chuck anything and replace it if it still works well, unless a significant change in the technology makes it worth while.
I'll probably look at digital radio when the technology is mature and the pricing is more realistic, as I did in my recent move from my old 23" CRT TV to a 50" Plasma last year.
The Walkman has been in the back of a drawer for a while. I don't think I ever played a tape in it, but it was a gift from my late wife, early in our relationship.
The option of using it when I couldn't tune in on line came to me because I remembered it has a very good analogue tuner.
It is now permanently plugged in to a spare set of powered PC speakers, for next time the situation arises.

I'm the same with cars - I looked at a Porsche during 2009, but couldn't convince myself it had any performance or handling advantage over my 15 year old Audi sports, which is also less conspicuous.

As you get older you worry less about revealing your age, although I find I get some funny looks when I do now because, although I am 66, I could pass for late 40s by appearance - hair not grey except at the temples, and skin and physique in good condition. [I come from a long-lived slow ageing family.]
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

Came across barry last night, some funny quotes on there.......barry was once in a knife fight...the knife lost.

Does it play music or anything else during the day? all i heard last night was the repetitve quotes.
Trust the process.
