Footy v Soccer

I am a long term fan/spectator of both codes as well as a player of both in my youth.

I have always maintained that Aussies Rules is the best spectator sport in the world - the commitment, courage, skill and athleticism of the players always leaves me in awe. I don't like the keepings-off and other negative tactics that have crept into the game in recent times.

However I still love watching soccer, with it's measured buildup and grace, as well as the skill and athleticism involved. I do hate the staging and diving which seems a lot more prevalent in international soccer than domestic.

To compare the two is somewhat disingenious - each has something to offer so I just sit back and enjoy them both. :D

I found one good argument in favour of soccer. I hope one of you guys can furnish me with a similarly-themed argument demonstrating Aussie Rules' superiority to this:

Good question Mal.

IMO an AFL footballer could play for the socceroos as a goalkeeper. Dustin Fletcher and the like have all done a pretty good job during the international rules when they have played as goalkeepers.

Well, I've just watched the first half of Germany v England and it's not a bad game to watch at all.

There's definitely one thing that is much better than footy and that's the commentary of this game. Is it Martin Tyler?

Anyway, an Englishman giving a totally unbiased call of an England match, complementing the action and not telling us what we can already see.

A delight to listen to.

As compared with most of the AFL commentators, who insist on giving a radio call with a TV picture and unable to leave their home-town bias at home. Some honourable exceptions, of course, but not too many.

Argies v Mehico was insane!

Reakon all codes have their subtleties, complexities and skills that one can't appreciate unless they follow them.

Certainly found that with rugby league over the years...

Tyler is probably the best commentator in world sport.

NBC's legendary basketball caller Marv Albert is also right up there*.

YESSS!

Check out the BBC's commentary of England v Germany.

Makes some of our more biased AFL commentators seem neutral.

'Our' Craig Foster is hysterical.
