AUSTRALIA DAY 2007 a day not to remember

Postby mal » Sun Jan 28, 2007 11:51 am

Little feMALe and I were going to go to one of our favourite haunts at
Semaphore beach yesterday for the Australia day carnival.
BUT it was cool and not beach weather so we gave it a miss.
The rest is now indelled into SA history.

Racial tensions reared its ugly head yesterday with brawling and violence
when the much publicised Australian flag again was a discerning issue.
People draped in the Australian flag were the forefront for the dispicable incidents.

On a day when we should ALL honour our flag and honour our land we get
subjected to this disgrace.

Reports are its from a few random troublemakers.
And thats how radical peace hating extremists started as well.....

A day not to remember.

Bit of a worry, I thought things like this would only happen in Sydney. Looks like we went a step further by having 3 separate groups.
Gangs of any sort be they of certain race groups or not need to be cracked down on.

I dont care if they are from between the South or North Pole
I dont care if they are Green or Purple
I dont care if they are young or old.

Whoever or whatever people perpetrate these dispicable incidents should be
made an example of.
Zero tolerance , stampY down on the troublemakers before it esculates into
bigger and more troublesome instances.

We can not have the next generation of Australians in the wrong frame of mind.

I agree totally Mal.
No room for violence in a country that has no need for any. Sounds as though tit for tat just got out of control, but there must have been a few people with it in their heads to fight before anything had even started.

True, that halfwit drongo chant annoys the piss out of me too! :x
Li'l Johnny Howard doing it at the 2000 Sydney Olympics didn't help much!
It makes us Aussies sound as dumb as a sack of doorknobs!
Specially when that was being used to counter the Barmy Army's singing!
Almost as stupid as the xenophobic Yank WWE crowd chanting "U.S.A., U.S.A.!"
Not quite... Redneck Septics aren't just stupid, they're ignorant too!

The area is a Dry Zone and apparantly it is not enforced, Drunkeness in public is the problem rather than racism as such. Give the police the resources to lock people up and the problem will soon be quickly dealt with.

I know this probably violates the idea of "freedom of the press", but perhaps there needs to be some thought put into a law that prohibits papers from publishing potentially inflammatory material, especially if that material turns out to be false. From what I gather there are a few rumours going about that it was sparked off by some flag incident, the police have denied that such an incident could have sparked off the entire crowd, yet the paper seems to have jumped on the potential of Sydney's racial problems to sensationalize what most other sources has identified as a bunch of pissed Aussies beating the crap out of each other. This sort of media irresponsibilty has pissed me off for years, it is also widely acknowledged that Sydney's talk back radio shows fanned the flames of racial tension leading up to Cronulla (was any action taken against them?), and after the tsunami some air-head interviewing a respected scientist tried her best to convince all Australians that we should all be crapping our pants because one could wipe out large sections of Australia at any second. They are less interested in bringing the honest news than trying to beat everything up to make it more "newsworthy". Angry little hate mongers from all around the world must be rubbing their hands together with glee at how easy it is to manipulate a greedy western press IMO.

Blues where's your proof that there weren't racial tensions? And that a flag wasn't involved?

The Sunday Mail have quotes from people who say that was the situation.

Just cos the cops aren't saying it happened (which could be for operational reasons), doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I got no proof of that, but I am not saying there was no flag incident. I am questioning the potential of the incident to incite the whole crowd though.
