The Reva Electric Car is being prevented from even getting a trial on Australian roads because it falls into the classification of a "Heavy Vehicle" but is unable to meet those specifications. Apparently Australia doesn't have a classification for lighter vehicles as does other parts of the world.
This effectively prevents this car from ever being able to run on Australian roads because, as I understand it, it would require a huge technological leap for this company to lift the vehicle's speed to the minimum expected of any 4 wheeled vehicle, as specified by Oz standards.
Of course the motivations for making a new classification are enormous, following the government's acknowledgment that global warming exists and the world wide scientific community's proof that human activity is causing it.
The government's refusal to even allow a trial is in most likeliness motivated by the same reasons keeping Australia off the Kyoto Treaty, ie. "economic advantage".
What use is a bloody economic advantage if it is inside a disintegrating climate?
