Volcano in Chile affecting Australian air travel

Mods, feel free to move this to the travel section if you see fit

The eruption of the Puyehue volcano in Chile is causing air travel chaos across Australia and New Zealand. Melbourne Airport has pretty much ground to a halt with all flights cancelled to and from Melbourne and the airport effectively closed. Flights to/from Hobart and New Zealand have also been affected.

Also affected AFL teams returning from interstate matches. Richmond have to get a coach back from Sydney, while Essendon are stranded in Perth I understand. Also, Hawthorn v Gold Coast is scheduled for Aurora Stadium on Saturday, so will be interesting what happens there.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Looks like my Auntie and Uncle may have taken all this a little too seriously and jumped the gun a bit.
They have been staying in Melbourne for a week (from Brisbane) and were meant to fly Melbourne - Adelaide today, drive to Willowie for my grandfathers funeral Tuesday and fly home to Brissie Wednesday. Yesterday they panicked as they heard Adelaide could possibly be affected as well, as they had to be home by Thursday am they decided to hire a car and drive straight home, if they had stayed in Melbourne last night they could have stuck to their original plans, now my Auntie misses her fathers funeral.

Bloody fast car to do it in 8 hours lol...I'm about 4 hours north of Edinburgh.

The tens of thousands who were trying to travel a little bit further afield might not agree of course.

It was tongue in cheek, I did just have a look on Google maps though, Portsmouth to Inverness is just over 10 hours, still only a short stroll compared to Melbourne - Brisbane (20 1/2 hrs), Darwin (44 hrs) or Perth (37 hrs) and it's a bit cold to swim to Hobart at the moment ;)

Was originally planning a flight from Adel to Perth for today when booking it a couple of weeks but decided on a Wednesday flight because it was cheaper. Should get a lottery ticket as well.
It's all the SANFL's fault.
