I've always been a "devils advocate" type of person .. and even though I wish our state had more flexible hours for retailers - I do wonder what the reasons are for the current conditions, and the governments thinking for not changing it.

i work at night and sleep during the day, so 24/7 shopping would be convenient for me and everyone esle who works at night.
The problem with Barcelona is that I like fish and chips but they had to turn it into calamari and patatas

do you really think a small city such as ours could support this ridiculous notion???????? oh yea and i spose the consumer wouldn't end up paying for it also through higher wages etc, what about the poor retail workers - dont they deserve a life - ludicrous question, not even our largest capital has 24/7 shopping sheesh

I worked N/S for 5&1/2 years- the shops being open at night woould've been of no benefit to me whatsoever.
I think 7am-9pm is plenty enough.

Coles down Anzac Hwy open after midnight I do my shopping then.
All in for total DEregulation if the shop owners pay the correct penalty rates to the workers.

For those who have said Yes. Try shopping overseas on Public Holiday's, you'll find that it's very simular to here, not very many shops open.

Shopping hours should be cut, if anything. Open till 12 Saturday morning, not open at all Sundays.

Shut the shops and get people outdoors, playing or attending sport or other family-orientated activities. Surely it is no coincidence that our obesity levels have risen since shopping hours increased in the late 80's when Saturday arvo trading was introduced.

Would also help save the corner deli's and other small businesses.

I voted no, people should organise their lives better. I've lived overseas and travelled a fair bit, as a rule most shops are closed on public holidays, particularly Easter in nominally christian countries like Germany, UK and USA.

It's already here, by stealth maybe but it's here. Anyone shopped at one of the 24/7/ BP On the Run's that are slowly turning in to mini-supermarkets and food halls?

I don't like Govt regulating when people can shop or shop-owners can open. If there's no demand at night time, people won't open their shop-doors but I reckon let everyone work it out for themselves.

Interesting point to note - the current regulations limit the closing time but not the opening time, that's why some of the supermarkets open at midnight.

A friend of mine in the US a few years back bought a new car and drove it out of the showroom at 2am in the morning on a week-day .... now that's probably a bit extreme.
