Garden Sleepers

Postby Dissident » Tue Aug 21, 2007 3:30 pm

Hey all,

Preparing my house for sale, and need to get hold of some sleepers for the front yard. Can anyone recommend anything, and any place? I want to pay as little as possible as it ain't really a permanent thing for me!

Try a salvage joint they may be able to help you

The Salvage joint on south road near Westies has a stack load of recycled timber as for what types I don't have a clue

Take them from the train tracks diss!

Seriously, try salvage yards. I know Adelaide Rural and Salvage (Hanson Road, North of Grand Junction Road) used to have a pretty big stock pile at a good price. They were second hand ones, but it sounds like that won't matter for a short term solution.

That's why I specified that it's North of Grand Junction Road - the jokes apply to the Southern side.

Glad the info helped.

If your after some wood, the Charles Sturt council usually sells chopped wood from the Adelaide show and the money goes to charity.

Problem is half of Adelaide has steel sleepers and the half is a mixture of wood and concrete. Usually and old country line that has just been re sleepered has the sleepers lying trackside for the local farmers to collect and use as fence posts or burn etc etc.

That probably explains why visiting friends in Adelaide who lived in Rosewater a few years back I stopped at a petrol station near the Torrens Rd end and discovered they didn't take credit cards after I'd filled up - Cash only! I'd never met that before! [Fortunately, I had just enough on me - I rarely carry much cash.]

That happened to me at a servo on Marion Road (somewhere between Anzac Hwy and Henley Beach Rd) about 15 years ago. The arsehole behind the counter took down my license plate and told me he'd call the cops if I didn't produce the cash in 30 minutes. I spent the next 20 minutes zigzagging around the western suburbs looking for an ATM that would take my card. Got back to the servo in about 45 minutes, but thankfully he hadn't yet called the plods.

Needless to say I never patronised that particular servo again
