Now those spoilsports at the Vatican have made it harder by adding another seven sins to the list:
- polluting
- genetic engineering
- being obscenely rich
- drug dealing
- abortion
- pedophilia
- causing social injustice

polluting- does that include recieving unsolicited calls from India?
genetic engineering- tell that to para/quadrplegics who may benefit from stem cell research
being obscenely rich- I committed a sin anway through envy of said sinners...
drug dealing- is that including legal drug dealers who sell drugs prescribed by pushers (Doctors) that we neither need or want (diabetes can be treated without prescribed drugs)
abortion- surely we don't need a rise in pregnant teenagers?
paedophillia- this has only just become a sin?
causing social injustice- how many of us will have the opportunity?

Minor correction:
The type of diabetes caused by excessive weight gain due to excessive caloric intake or inadequate exercise can be treated without drugs.**
The type associated with inadequate cellular response to normal Insulin production can be treated with some drugs short of requiring Insulin.
The sort caused by loss/malfunction of Insulin secreting cells in the Pancreas requires Insulin.

**There is a genetic factor identified in Saharan rats that enables them to live on meagre rations in the desert, but gives them diet related diabetes on a richer diet like standard laboratory rats get. [It is possible this sort of genetic factor is relevant to the vulnerability of Australian Aborigenes to diabetes once they start living on city food.]

There are parallels with the recent "Antidepressants don't work" paper published.
If you include in your sample of the "depressed" those suffering from grief, loss, mourning - the various "reactive depressions" - antidepressants do little.
If you take the group with a genetic prediposition to depression/OCD antidepressants do a lot for them.
If you include the group presenting claiming to feel "depressed" who actually have prodromal Bipolar Disorder or Schizophrenia antidepressants are likely to make them worse.

So if you are sloppy with your sampling, or deliberately skew it, you could get almost any result.

Okay, for all of you condeming the church for its statement, I take it you are in favour of paedophilia, social injustice, pollution, the gap between the obscenely rich and the poor etc.? I think the Church has done the right thing in condemning most of those actions.
I, for one, would have been aborted if mum had followed her doctor's advice. I am glad that she did not.
As for the stance of paedophilia being 'hypocritical' of the church, please note that the rate of occurrence amongst priests and brothers is lower than all other professions in society. Yes, there should be no paedophilia at all, but please realise it is not just the religious. Most religious are excellent people.
As for the 'riches' of the Vatican, please note that the artwork was given to the Church on condition that it never be sold. Additionally, even if sold it would produce less money than the tourism receipts that come into the Vatican from people seeing them. These receipts are used to assist the poor in society. Hence, sell those so-called 'riches' and there is more poverty.
Also note that priests and brothers live on much less than 99% of the people who will read this thread.

Im guessing it means the Paradise Church will have to close now, as with their obscene wealth, they are a sin.

We dont need 14 sins, just one. Religion.

I would have thought declaring abortion a sin when there is so much poverty and sickness worlwide caused by overpopulation would be "causing social injustice". Ah, the hypocrosy of the Catholic Church knows no bounds

The problem is not overpollution but the way in which food and wealth is distributed. If all used what we should, there would not be the problem that there is today.
