boy it's so disappointing to hear the greyhound racing industry is in such disarray and turmoil.... i have such wonderful memories of Thursday nights at "the dogs" in the early to mid eightees where my grandparents would take my younger brother and I each week... a time when the entire undercover betting area was full of heaps of peoples and noise and it would take you 5-10 minutes to negotiate across to the other side... food vans inside and the windows around the ring all full of people wanting to place bets etc....,a time when you could watch the dogs being paraded before the game and where that cool old bloke would sell ya a couple of hot yummy pie or pasties as you walked out after the last race.... it was a battle just to make it up the ramp after the bell went to see the start of the race, would be heaps of peeps outside to watch the race with the grassed areas filled in summer and kids playing everywhere.... have been to see the dish lickers in the last few months and nearly cried.... no atmosphere at all, only about twenty people in chasers diner, and imho the food their is crapola..... not a person in the old downstairs betting area and only one on course bookie, him too set up upstairs..... is a shame but I guess a sign of the times and just another example (see trots, thorough breds etc) how the pokie machines have ruined it for the other gambling industries.. boy feeling very semtimental at the moment forgive my indulgence....
