There was no canal between Croydon and Woodville when I lived there in the late 1950s, and I don't remember one existing where Port Rd and Old Port Rd diverged.
I can remember an open drain on Old Port Rd

KW Street used to be 3 lanes before the TRAM
KW Street is now down to 2 lanes
Its inevitable that traffic flow will be impeded now and in the future.

3-45 pm
Last month I drove from the corner of KW/GRENFELL [On Grenfell st.]
Turned left into PULTENEY STREEET
Then left into NORTH TERRACE
Then left into KW STREET
Then left back to the original spot

26 Minutes later .....

Could have saved all that time and petrol and just stayed where you were Mal.

I was in a non parking section so drove around the block[and did my block as well ! ]

26 minutes [-X

I got to the train station nice and early today. Pity the bloody train didn't. Got into town far too late to make the start of the workshop I was attending at the wine centre. Decided to wait for the circle line bus rather than walk, since I was already late, I thought the bus might get me to East Tce a little quicker.

Half an hour later the circle line bus finally rocked up. I could have walked to the wine centre and back in that time. Made me even later for the workshop. While I was waiting on North terrace I got to view the tram doing its thing.

I understand fully why the circle line bus took so long: the traffic along North Terrace has been royally screwed. There are now no less than six seperate traffic lights along the stretch from North Terrace to the UniSA campus. This, combined with the loss of a lane, has stifled the traffic.

Now I'm all for the tram extension. It looks great, it's getting used, and it has connected the train with the rest of the city. But given the money spent on it, couldn't they have achieved better traffic flow???

I'll agree that they went overboard with 6 sets of traffic lights on North Tce.
I was in town last night (leaving at 5:30ish) & can see why traffics banked up- all the people leavin the friggin carparks!
Let's assume 50% of these people drove into town for work, parking in the carparks- if these people used the public transport system, traffic congestion would ease by 50%, public transport would be more eficient due to there being less traffic to negotiate... & the improvement-spiral goes up.
Eradicte 10% of morons taking the short-cut through town.

I will say that last night, when leaving town, the only congested lane was the left lane on North Tce- where all traffic turning on to King William St was held up. Again, this was excacerbated by people leaving the various carparks turning into this lane.
Once I got into either of the 2 lanes closer to the middle of the road, I was out of the city in good time (considering it was peak hour), & I travelled down North Tce (from Pultney St to Port Rd), & the Tram was no issue.
The issue as I see it, is that people want to continue their driving habits from 20 years ago- so until thier stupidity is eradicated, things won't change.

(Ps I called into town to pick up some sundry items, & this was the only time I could do it)

Traffic flow in the Adelaide metroplolis is slowing down with the advent of the tram.
Having commuted to and through town in recent times Ive noticed the difference.
A few people who work in town have commented on traffic congestion.
My Taxi and Courier friends are not impressed.[They now avoid working in town]
Apparently the speed limit in town is 50k...if only we could get to 50k
King William street is clogging up, North Terrace is stagnating as well

TRAFFIC GRIDLOCK BLAMED ON CITY TRAM

She was blocked in the North Terrace Myers carpark for an hour.
trying to get onto North Terrace + hundreds of others were trapped as well.
FALSE REPORTING she said it was 2 hours in the carpark !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She called the police to try and get out of the carpark

I understand the tram will be of great benefit to some
But for many others perhaps not.

Not even 12 months on and the Tram drivers have gone on strike :butthead:
