hopping mice v rats & mice

i'm a bit perplexed because our cats will kill rats & mice (as they should) the fruit tree next door attracts them, however there is a hopping mouse (i presume it is because it hops around) & i've noticed on the first day the cats got up looked & sniffed at it then walked away & when this hopping mouse is wandering/hopping around the backyard they don't even move to look anymore

so my question is are hopping mice not really mice & therfore not on the cats adgenda to attack, toy with & then kill ?

i don't know mate but every now & then i/we see it in the backyard hopping around

yep, very close to that picture although it tummy is a bit bigger (perhaps pregnant)
