Go and see a different Physio then mate

yeah go see another physio. i had a ingrown toenail for like 3 years and after 1.5 years of pain the same doctor kept telling me that its no good for surgery just sit the pain out and it will go. Few times there i couldnt walk. got frustrated with it after the 2.5 years and went to a diff doctor and he said why the hell wasnt it operated on or why didnt i see a doctor, told him the story and he said that doctor was insane. Some doctors odviously dont do there job properly. Was a few times i want to cut the toee off as it was bad. Now my toe nail on that toe is abnormal but its great nows :D

The general GP position seems to be either do nothing or to excise the whole side of the nail including that part of the nail bed.
Yet most ingrown nails occur because there is a small point of nail digging into the skin at the side of the nail as it grows back after being cut too short or damaged in an injury.
When I had one some years ago I declined the radical excision and persuaded the GP to open the edge under local anaesthetic, find the sharp edge and trim and smooth it. It then grew out easily.
The trouble is that technique doesn't always work first shot and GPs don't want people coming back angry that they already paid to have it fixed, and it isn't!
So, they tend to go for the more radical but more certain solution if they do anything.

but when its infected and effecting you walking and they have tried all options other the surgery then what happens. if a patient continually asks or tells its not working then the doctor needs to listen the patient. I didnt have to pay a cent as it was done through the public system and yes it was done whilst i was under but wasnt just the find the sharp edge. Was cut right below the skin below the nail because it was so bad.

ewwwww yucky subject but i have had both sides of each big toe nail sliced back (under local) and quaterized now i have skinnier big toe nails that NEVER EVER grow in... so much better and it's great being pain free after so many years suffering digging out each couple of months by the Podiatrist ( I bame my late father and genetics) .... it was so successful that I then had both second toe toe nails removed all together and quaterized (sp) so that they never grow back.. (they used to grow like cones and then intowards the flesh.. looks a little funny but I still paint them like there is a nail and again do not seem to have any problems now... well worth investigating.. with the private health insurance think I paid a $50 gap for all four through the Podiatrist.
RIP my DH 1964 - 2009 - You were one of the best and I miss you

I agree, if it is really bad or a recurring problem, taking the edge out including the part of the nail bed it grows from is the best solution.
My alternative is viable if their is no deformity causing recurrence, and you get it early.

Also had Dr Spriggins clean my knee up with Dr Geoff supervising. The patient in before me was Rhett Biglands, so at least i got some comfort knowing i was in good hands.
