Brewed a few miles along the coast the boys at Brewdog have been at it again...might be just a little bit strong for some of you. Buggered if I'd pay £30 for a beer.

Sorry FC that's one penguin themed item that won't be finding it's way into the Xmas goodie box

A controversial Scottish brewery has launched what it described as the world's strongest beer - with a 32% alcohol content.

Tactical Nuclear Penguin has been unveiled by BrewDog of Fraserburgh.

BrewDog was previously branded irresponsible for a 18.2% beer called Tokyo, which it then followed with a low alcohol beer called Nanny State.

Managing director James Watt said a limited supply of Tactical Nuclear Penguin would be sold for £30 each.

A couple of mixed pallets would certainly make for an interesting 'taste test'.
Apart from Tactical Nuclear Penguin and Tokyo, their other stout Paradox sounds good too.

Any chance of slipping a slab under your arm as hand luggage ?

I shall keep watching that series 'Nothing to delcare' about your customs and excise people...I'm using it as a training video for the road trip...so if it looks like a bottle of beer (unopened) can be got through the airport without being snaffled for some customs party then you never know

Must confess I haven't tried their stuff...seen it in the supermarket...so really should get some and give it a go especially as it's so local...the IPA for me though.

A hint for clearing customs in Australia with minimum fuss:

Bring some innocuous food item like chocolate. Being food, you must declare it upon entry. Being innocuous, you are likely to be waved right through without inspection. Going through the "nothing to declare" line invariably means waiting in line to have your luggage X-rayed. Beer might well qualify as an innocuous foodstuff.

Caveat: I cannot vouch how well the above advice applies to non-Oz residents entering the country. YMMV.

I'm going to start looking into all that sort of stuff seriously next year...I plan every trip like a campaign...tends to be less stressful if you're prepared for anything. But knowing that your customs are a bit more strict than some countries I'll be trying to plan for delays etc afterall they're only doing their job not that I'm ever brave enough to knowingly pack something I shouldn't

...and if you're all very good little boys and girls I might start a thread for it to let you all recommend your favourite places to stay, things to do and see etc to give me some ideas but still a bit soon for that.

I've just tried their stuff for the first time...a bottle of their Punk IPA to accompany the rugby on tv.

Don't suppose you can get it over there but if anyone's visiting the UK I recommend giving it a go.

It's 6% Vol...a nice golden, pale honey colour in the glass...with a good head on it and only a hint of fizz...I'd say even less bubbles than Cooper's Paley. The very first taste for some weird reason instantly reminded me of my father's homemade ginger beer from when I was a kid But after that the taste is lovely...dry and very hoppy with a strong but pleasant aftertaste that lingers for quite a while.

As much as I like my Indian Pale Ale I probably wouldn't want to spend a whole evening drinking it but as an occasional drink to enjoy with the rugby etc it gets my vote
