WEET BIX now have sugar

Postby - » Tue Nov 07, 2006 12:48 pm

I just realised today that sanitarium are now adding sugar to their weet bix.

How long has this been happening? I am not happy about it as if wanted sugar I would add it myself. Looks like im gonna go to Vita Brts which have always had a shitty taste to them.

"Baby on board". Why dont you put a sign on ur car saying "adult on board" or "car stereo in use"?

Its been happening for at least a decade if not 2 or more. Who knows, Weetbix might have always had sugar?
I can remember a long time ago when Vita Brits compared the 2 showing how they had no surgar and WeetBix did.

I used to do food ingredient stats a few years ago.
One of my topics was cereals, I was stunned with some of the findings.
The amount of sugar is in extreme in cereals
In fact many health practioners will tell you to take extreme care.

SANITARUIM WEETBIX[may have changed, this was done a few years ago]

ENERGY 792
PROTIEN 7-7
FAT 5-2
SATURATED FAT 3-4
CARBS 26
SUGAR 6-7
SODUIM 135
DIETRY FIBRE 3-3
THIAMIN 0-55
RIBOFLAVIN 0-72
NIACIN 2-5
FOLATE 106
IRON 3

The energy rating was good at 792 most brands are close to 1500
Protien 7-7 was about average
Fats at 5-2 was high, lots were 2 or below
Saturated Fat at 3-4 is one of the highest[please check your lists in case thats wrong]
Carbs at 26 was very very low
SUGAR AT 6-7 was low lots of others are 25 +
Soduim 135 low bracket some get out to 300 to 700

The sugar/carbs are lower
BUT
The Fat levels are very high...especially saturated fat ?

SUGAR ratings other cereals included
---------------------------------------------

DICK SMITHS BREAKFAST 97% FAT FREE 23-2[ low fat high suger !!!]
KELLOGGS JUST RIGHT 31-2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KELLOGS SULTANA BRAND 22-7
BLACK AND GOLD WHEAT BISCUITS 2-8
KELLOGS GUARDIAN 11-8
COLES FARMLAND COCOA PUFFS 24-8
SANITARIUM GRANOLA 5-1
SANITARUIM SKIPPY CORNFLAKES 6-0
KELLOGGS FRUIT LOOPS 41-5 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KELLOGGS RICE BUBBLES 9-0
KELLOGGS COCO POPS 36-5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
KELLOGGS BART SIMPSON NO PROBLEMS 31-0 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FOODLAND CORN FLAKES 9-7

So in summary SANITARUIM WEETBIX was 6-7[still very sugary]
but better than most...if they add sugar will they drop the fat?

PLEASE NOTE THESE STATS WERE DONE YEARS AGO AND i TAKE NO
RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ABOVE INFORMATION

Who'd want to eat Weet Bix without sugar anyway? Like eating dried plaster. Honey is even better :)

Over-rated
Better off eating the cardboard boxes they come in.

Prepared cereals= starch which changes into sugar when entering the stomach.
Overloading with cereals with large sugar contents are a HEALTH RISK.

ADVERTISER 13/05/2003 REPORT
-----------------------------------------

It is supposed to be the food for Iron men but NUTRIGRAIN does little for our nutrition according to a new report by CHOICE.

CSIRO Health, Sciences and Nutrition clinical research unit director Peter Clifton : Sweet things appeal to children and NUTRIGRAIN is a pretty sweet cereal, its somthing like 40% sugar.

CHOICE says only 3 of the top 10 cereals were nutrionally recommended: They are SANITARUIM WEETBIX at the top.

Only 65 of 188 cereals and mueslis oput to the test were branded ''best choice''- high in carbohydrate and fibre but low in fat , salt and sugar.

The report only recommended one of the breakfast cereals directly aimed at children SANITARUIM HONEY WEETS.

PORRIDGE was also listed as a good option for children and adults.

Manager and dietitian of the Sanitarium nutrition service Cathy Mcdonald said it was a conern ''that many of the less nutritious cereals had become best sellers. WEETBIX is one of the best,is based on wholegrain, high in fibre, low in sugar''

As you can see most cereals are very suspect.
WEETBIX is best of a bad bunch, BUT if they put more SUGAR in there ooooooch.
WEDGIE when you talk to the most intelligent health practioners they will invariably
tell peoplelike me and you to avoid most commercial cereals in the market.
Most are SUGAR infested and then fortified with the minerals that were stripped
from them in the baking process.

With the amount of wheat that's in them, they might as well be loaded with sugar anyway.

To my knowledge weet bix has always had sugar.
Vita brits always have advertised that they don't and weet bix does.
Really you should steer clear of these rubbishy cereals and eat fruit loops like me.
Alot better for you.
