Woman walks out on marriage proposal..

Postby Bully » Tue Feb 16, 2010 5:10 pm

Heard just on the news that a guy in USA at a ice hockey game, proposed to his partner on the big screens at the game during half time as you do....with a TV camera on the woman when this was all happening she walked out on him!!!!

Poor guy

Anyone else hear of this?

Also in this day in age does it have to be the guy in the relationship that has to do the asking always for marriage or has time changed??

Rumour has it that it was a put on staged by MSG/NYR management.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Someone was telling me on the weekend that a friend proposed at half time of a 36ers game. At least there wouldn't be too many people to be embarrassed in front of.

Dunno why people think it's "romantic" or a good idea, puts someone on the spot something bad and can end very badly as seen.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

A potential partner may feel that the public proposal creates pressure to say yes, immediately, without time to reflect, and is thus controlling behaviour..
Or they may see it as evidence of a poor fiscal judgement.
Either of those could require a "No" as a response.

I don't think it's fair to make such an important decision / conversation into a public spectacle unless you've both discussed the idea beforehand (not the exact plan but maybe the concept). Some people love that sort of thing, some don't.

In fact, I think excessive pressure even in private (OTT plans, gifts) isn't right. Wouldn't you want to be 100% sure she made the decision that she wanted to make. Even if it's "no"at least you know her true feelings. I am thinking of one mate that I felt coerced his wife into it with OTT behaviour (controlling, like Psyber said) only to have her walk out 5 years later claiming she never loved him in the first place.

Just keep it simple and romantic I reckon.

i know that this one at the NBA game was staged, so wouldnt surprise me if the icehockey one was too.

the chances of someone being allowed to propose is extremely slim, as they would probably get hundreds of requests a week.
