Dedicated LPG Falcon

Postby mick » Mon Feb 22, 2010 9:05 am

I am thinking of changing cars soon, I need a decent sized station wagon as I move a lot of stuff about. I'm contemplating getting an dedicated LPG 2006/2007 Falcon SW from the SA government auctions. I've heard the LPG system used by Ford is primitive and the auto in this model is 4 sp rather than 5sp. Has anyone had any experience with this car? I would appreciate some feedback. By the way cars to me are like washing machines and fridges, not an extension of my John Thomas  , what I'm looking for is space, reliability and safety.

I have an '08 G6 Falcon full gas. Power wise it is still pretty good, cruises around the city well and up and down the freeway pretty good too. Not that great with towing the boat though.

Biggest downfall is the reduced boot space, the spare tyre takes up a fair bit of room. But overall, it is quite economical to run and does what I need it to do - get me from A to B and back again (with a few C's and D's thrown in as well).

The iPod integration thing on the other hand, now that annoys me. I have over 12,000 songs on my iPod and you have to scroll through name by name, starting at A everytime. Becomes painful after ahile.

Mick, I looked at the Falcon LPG wagon and was put off by the litres per 100km ratio, and moreso the loss of boot space that the spare took up. I'd heard third hand that the auto in the FWLPG version wasn't as good as the petrol version as well, but as stated that was third hand info - I was put off by the spare in the boot so I didn't investigate that further.

If I was going to get a Falcon Wagon, I would've got the petrol version.

As it is, I'm still searching around (Kluger, Captiva etc).

Sorry 'mick', dunno about your lpg Ford, but I was down at the Netley yards last week and
there was plenty of good choice among the vehicles. A govt. mate of mine with inside knowledge
tells me that you should steer clear of any vehicle that has seen service on 'mission lands' if you know what I mean.
Unfortunately these vehicles, more often than not, have a poor service/treatment history.

p.s. only 2 more sleeps 'dev' \:D/
