Yabbies

Postby fisho mcspaz » Fri May 21, 2010 1:39 pm

Just bought some fresh cooked yabbies - I'm thinking of doing them up with fresh tomatoes, chili, garlic and a splash of white wine. The only thing is, I have never used yabbies before and I don't know how to remove the shell. Can anyone help with this? I understand I should probably pull the head off but I'm not sure about the rest. :?

Much like a prawn really - just a bit harder to peel. Rip the head off, peel the tail armour off, clean the guts off the end of it and cook. Use chicken snips on the underside of the little beggars and cut up the middle (but not through the flesh) is probably the easiest way to get the meat out without damaging it.

Yabbies are easy to peel. Rip off the head and open one side of the under tail and then peel back. piece of cake. You don't cut them.

Keep the heads too and suck out the mustard. Beautiful.
So you've seen everything have you?

Just cook them and then rip the shell off.
Suck the guts and brains out. That's the best bit!

I got rid of the guts, couldn't come at them. :) Well, I managed to peel all the yabbies without too much trouble! Haven't made dinner yet but the hard part is over.
