Has anyone travelled Tiger ?

Postby Felch » Fri Jul 11, 2008 2:25 pm

Has anyone travelled, or attempted to travel with Tiger Airlines ?

The reason i ask is my wife booked us some cheap flights a few months back, to Melbourne, for late August. She was planning to do some shopping :( , i was planning to go to the footy :D . We have had various emails from Tiger since we booked the flights, changing the flight times by 5-10 minutes each - all ok, we just had to email back an acceptance of the changes. This morning, we got an email changing our departure time by 9 hours, bringing it forward to 10am !!! They cancelled the evening flight, which now means we cant make because of day-time commitments. Their policy is to provide refunds if a flight time is changed by more than 4 hours either way, but the only way to contact them is via phone or mail - they cannot be emailed. So, i have been trying all morning to get through to their call centre, which was continually ringing out until someone finally answered (in an Indian accent !) and, after trying to explain the situation over and over again, he agreed to refund the airfares, minus some fees and within 4-8 weeks !!! Now, the flights were VERY cheap, and to be honest, i only kept ringing and ringing this morning out of principle. But i wonder whether they had no intention of the flight actually departing in the first place, and Tiger probably hope it all gets too hard for people to chase a refund.

I am sure i heard something on ACA or Today Tonight about some problems in other states with Tiger, but i cant remember the details.

I havent travelled with Tiger as yet

But you are correct they were on ACA a few months back, concerning a flight from Gold Coast to Melbourne and how it was delayed by a few hours. cant re-call the whole story.

Fairly poor if they cant be e-mailed.

yeah, i guess by making it as hard as possible for people to contact them, they would be hoping people just give up and forfeit the tickets...................

maybe if you have the opportunity go to the airport and discuss with someone there and force them to fix it up on the spot.....

Hey Felch, good to meet you last night.

BEWARE Tiger! My sister in law and 16mth old travelled to Melbourne. They needed a pram, and normal kiddie accessories. Because of the excess baggage, they were slugged AT THE AIRPORT the equivalent of another ticket - which meant their existing cheap ticket became more expensive than a regular seat with Qantas.

I don't know the exact details of weight etc, but if you do fly Tiger, check the fine print.

Yes mate, good to meet you to.

The ironic thing is that we were probably unable to go anyway - the wife will be heavily pregnant by then (this wasnt a factor when the tickets were booked) and the doctor has recommended against it. Its more of a principle thing now.

I did think of fronting up down the airport, MT79. Probably cost me more to park though than the refund is worth !!!

very true, airport parking costs a mint!!!!!!!

the only other option is to park at IKEA or in the streets surrounding the airport and walk in, that way you save money and get fit!

mate of mine was fleeced by them, he arrived to book in 55 mins before departure, instead of 60 mins... & because they refused to let him (& others) on, he had to book another later flight, which meant he had to buy another return ticket later that day, as he would also miss that flight. An expensive exercise, as he was taking his son back to Melb.

Presumably they make up for the cheap flights with the rip offs built into the fine print.

A colleague flew with them, she was told to be at the airport no later than 1 1/2 hrs prior to the flight, she had no problems but anyone there with less than 60 min didn't get on.

 Can't believe some of those stories.

On a side note, America Airlines and United Airlines are now charging customers (somewhere between $15 to $30) if they check in any lugguge at all. :?

With oil prices continually increasing (with no end in sight), I wonder how long 'cheap' airlines are going to be able to last.

Same here Mic. Just paid £30.00 ($62.00) for two pieces of luggage on Thompsons, and £28.00 ($59.00) for two meals even though we didn't ask for them. So a 3 hour flight to Naples is now £802 economy ($1,650.00 approx)

why on earth would anyone need to be at the airport 1.5 hrs before they are due to leave?
