Is any one else worried about how they are are rushing ahead with this despite the many experts' repots that it could ruin the gulf?
I know there is a water crisis, but I have a bad feeling about this going ahead.

I too think there could be massive implications for the marine ecology (although I am no expert). Why are they so readily ignoring this?

Can't understand for the life of me how we need to go down this path, when there's so much water running around after rain getting flushed out to sea. Recycling storm water would be the best option, but that sounds too boring for Rann's CV.

Looking at the other side of this .The liberals and their experts keep telling us Rainwater from run off and grey water .
I for one don't know where the rainwater is coming from as we aren't getting much falling from above.

I think if the media had its way whoever was doing the plant they would be damned for building one .and they would be damned for not building one .

Surely there can not be enough storm water in a drought !!

good point. Not sure on the topic, might be good in ways of when its not raining, ( which it doesnt ) alot now in Adelaide, but yes could destroy coast line and marine. Bit of a tough topic to debate about. My vote is they should just do it and see what happens. If they dont do it and the city runs outa water in like 5 years time they might look back at it and say why didnt we?

Personally I dont think the media report enough about the detrimental effect this will have on the gulf......save maybe the Independent Weekly and the Southern Messenger.
I dont think the Govt has explored water harvesting thoroghly enough.

I'd like to think my son will have the opportunity to swim, fish & surf as we do now for the rest of his life.
Lets hope Rann doesnt have "South Australian lifestyle destroyer" on his CV by the time he's finished.

From what I hear there's some very serious concerns about our short term water supply - I assume they wouldn't air this publicly to avoid a panic

If they don't build it and we run dry the Govt will be run out of town

Do they wait out the drought and pray or do something about guaranteeing the water supply? I am not expert on this stuff to know for sure TBH.

I'm thinking that Port Stanvac (or anywhere inside the gulf) is not the best spot to have it.
It was just the most convenient at the time.

What leaves a bitter taste in my mouth is how they have dismissed all the negative reports on its impact to our coastline.

Havent seen much rain in Adelaide in how long ?
The last shower we had here the top couple of millimetres of soil/sand was damp .

I guess it depends on the capacity of the system, but I don't think it takes a lot of rain to get an adequate supply. Especially if the system is extensive. And if we do get a wet winter (or spring) that will be more for it.

How much would all the infrastructure to capture and pump the storm water cost though? Would you be digging up half of Adelaide? Plus you are still putting your faith in the gods I don't know if that Govt would feel comfortable relying solely on mother nature.

In fact, I think they are looking at stormwater harvesting AND a desal plant. Not harvesting to the extent that we wouldn't need the desal plant as well however.

Any infrastructure requires work- did they abandon Gallipoli Underpass, because they had to "dig up half of Anzac Hwy"?
We require real vision to avert a potential crisis in the future- maybe if we'd harvested stormwater during the (past) good years, our reservoirs may be at capacity now, & our reliance on the Murray less. Maybe those who also rely on the Murray (NSW & Vic) should be practising storm water harvesting too- back into the Murray &/or their own reservoirs.
The Murray requires a National approach, SA on it's own can't save it.
