How many more reports are we gonna hear about this crap? :x
Sisters, daughters, wives, girlfriends, mates going out on the turps all easily taken advantage of by these sexual predators!
Slam those scumbags genitals in a cab's door should be a fitting enough punishment at least!
STUFF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!!!!
Evidence states the majority of offenders are 'New Australians' who coming from brutally patriarchal & oppressive countries,
from what I believe live by standards that any girl going out alone & partying is nothing more than an adulterous whore
who deserves nothing more than degrading sexual abuse & basically the shit treatment of a social pariah!
Bloody Hell women get stoned to death in these messed up nations! (& not the good kind of 'stoned' either! )
Send the bastards back to their war-torn Hell-holes if they can't accept our 'Free' society for both men & women! :x

Happy Australia Day! :partyman:

FFS I can't believe how some people fall for the crap presented in the papers or can't work out simple Math.
If 90% of the offenders have an "overseas background" (no facts show they recenty immigrated if you actually look into the facts and not just the media whirlpool that gets morons up in arms) and 95% of the taxi industry are from overseas doesn't it mean that a higher proportion of offenders are those who aren't from overseas?

The last 2 taxi drivers I had were new arrivals from Ethiopia and Pakistan. Much more polite than the taxi drivers I have got who have been here a much longer time, and they didn't smell either.

I don't care where they are from, none of them can be trusted IMO. Mrs Smac and I use plenty of cabs - sometimes together, sometimes seperately. Mrs Smac always takes a photo of the driver and sends it to my phone with his driver number when getting into a cab alone and tells the driver she is doing so. Extra 50c or something that is well worth it I reckon.

FFS that's just plain ridiculous.
Makes me happy though, the more people who mindlessly fall for this media campaign means its easier for me to get a cab.

I always think the "real Aussies" are worst, u tell them where to drop you off, fall asleep and when wake up at home from Glenelg (less than 3kms) find the bill is $20 and the drivers done the scenic route.
Me I prefer the Indians anyday.

Why?

Nothing to do with a media campaign of any sort. My wife gets in a cab at 2 in the morning, I want to know something about the driver and I want the driver to know that I do.

You're in quite a feisty mood this morning wedgie.

If find the comment "none of them can be trusted", it says that every cab driver isn't a trustworthy person because of something a small minority has supposedly got up to.
It'd be a sad world if we were that generalistic about every aspect of life.
If you'd said (or meant) "some of them cannot be trusted" or something along the lines of "Im always wary of taxi drivers because of what a minority of them may have done" then it would be fair enough and I'd understand.
Just not a fan of generalistic comments that lumps all taxi drivers or Lebanese or north supporters or Aborginal or any group together as the same. Never have been, I thought that would be obvious by now!

PS I wish I was feisty, bit sluggish to tell the truth.

Media beat-up ya reckon?
I gotta admit I've never had a problem with Taxis!
Then again, I'm not female & my tits are too hairy!
But it makes you think when there's some shitfaced scantily clad 20 year old hottie, on her own,
passed out in the back seat of a cab with some lecherous scumbag behind the wheel....
There's only a minority of bad apples I know, but still it shouldn't happen at all!

Just on that, I'd be interested to know from others if any sort of screening process occurs with other occupations.
I have a faint inkling that it may to a degree with Doctors, does it with Teachers, Social Workers, etc?

what sort of screening?

I volunteered at a Junior Games through my employer last year and involved helping out for a day with Primary School kids, to do it I had to sign consenfor a police check to be completed on me...

Also I know any tradeperson doing any work in a Childcare centre needs a police check done first

My wife would catch a taxi on average 2-3 times a week, and that's happened for many years. In all that time she has had one "incident" if it could be called that. In was in the middle of the day and the offending taxi driver was a white anglo saxon male in his 40's.
She caught a taxi in the city and asked to be taken to a law firm's office (who were involved in a very high profile court case against the Government at the time). This guy as soon as my wife mentioned where she was going "turned". Thumping the steering wheel and proceeding to call the law firm "a pack of *****" "F****** Un-Australian" "Should be taken out and f****** shot" etc etc. My wife is no shrinking Violet but she was genuinely frightened of this guy. When the taxi was stopped at the lights she got out, and threw $5 at him (the fare $3 something to that point). He said something along the lines of what about the ride? She just ignored him and got away from him as soon as possible.
I asked her at the time if she got the wankers number as I was going to report him. She said she was too shocked and not to worry about it.
I often think if The Daily Telegraph, The Advertiser, or The Herald Sun had got a hold of that story the headline would have been something like.....
DARK SKINNED FEMALE WITH QUESTIONABLE POLITICS JIPS AUSSIE MALE TAXI DRIVER OF ENTITLED FARE.

My mail is the situation is even worse than reported.
There may be legislation passed to not allow migrant drivers to
drive a cab until an Ausralian resident for 1 year or more.

My 2 Aussie taxi driving mates are very unimpressed with whats happening.
Passengers are complaining to them constantly about non Australian looking drivers.

Try this on.. last year, South Rd Tonsley Park, hailed a cab and said The Airport. Guy says you show me. Turned out he had arrived from India two days before, landed Sydney and his Cousin flew him to Adelaide the night before and gave him the keys to the cab next morning. True story.

Similar Melbourne, caught a cab to the World Trade Centre (ANZ Ball). Cabbie says you got mobile ring someone and get directions. I said get f#*#ed YOU radio through and get directions.

Case 3, Sydney, caught a cab to Windsor (never been to Windsor before) fare $160. From there caught a cab to the airport, a little bit further, fare $120. second guy took the freeway.

4th case, got in a cab in Goolwa, said take me to the sailing club. Guy says mate thats a $3.50 fare, you can walk.

Try lineing up for a cab Friday/Saturday night from Crown.
