Why people get glorified when passed away, this may be a touchy subject but i cant understand Foxtel playing a John McCarthy special.

Dont get me wrong its sad he died but lets not kid ourselves, he was an average AFL footballer, sounds like a great mate, but died potentially doing something very very stupid.

Agreed. Nothing against the bloke, but it seems that bad people never die.

i understand that. I just just don't understand why they wouldn't. I personally find it irresponsible, BUT that's just my opinion.

Some are concerned by potential side effects.

My niece reacted badly and is now severely allergic to everything from dog saliva to nuts.

Q, is there a chance she was already allergic but the innoculation just brought it to attention?

Poor little bugger...

The only reason I say, is because my godson was diagonesed with Lukemia at age 2 and it was discovered thereafter that he also had an immune deficency (meaning that he doesn't have immunity to certain diseases, like the flu, mumps etc...) however there was much conjecture as to whether all the chemotherapy caused it...

Was perfectly healthy. All of the family noted a change.

All good. Parents concerned about side-effects of vaccinations love their children no more or less than those who do not question them.

This will probably sound pretty out there - but I sort of blame the do-gooders that say that pregnant women cant eat or drink anything whilst pregnant for kids being allergic to anything and everything.

For example - for anyone over 35 - there's a fair chance your mothers drank and smoked right though your pregancies and ate all sorts of stuff - and as a generation we are generally a pretty healthy bunch. You'll probably agree that at school you didn't hear of many kids at all having an allergy to anything.

I'll use the example of my best mate again: She has 3 kids.

child one - she drank and smoked right the way through (not to excess of course) and child one is now a healthy 17 year old - no health problems

Child 2 - didn't smoke or drink and didnt eat anything she wasn't supposed to : child 2 diagnosed with luekemia and immunity issues

Child 3 - same as child 2, did all the right things and this child also born with same immunity deficincies and allergies.

CObviously it's coincidence but you can see where parents get their views on such things from - it's all about personal experience.

The same type of argument gets hailed down pretty darn quickly in the climate change thread.

Surely the scientific research into the right and wrong things to do during pregnancy is far more important than a one off example.

It's only that - an example and to show why people might have the beliefs they do.

Maybe if Q's niece didn't have that bad reaction, that her parents may think differently about the immunisation thing but they do think the way they do because of that experience.

We've got a friend that has chosen not to vaccine her kids. Which to me I can fully understand from the side effects thing, I've chosen to not take supplements because of certain ingredients so a bit hard for me to go against it. But the thing that annoys me about her is she is against the vaccine but doesn't really give a stuff about the kids diet. Every time we see them he is eating junk food, I will admit though I have notice a lot more sick kids now then when I was younger.
We're on this journey together, One Heart, One Club and they will Never Ever Tear Us Apart.
