Another record for today, the first instance of four 43 degree days in a row, in fact there previously never had been more than two in a row:

11-12/2/1899
4-5/1/1906
1-2/2/1912
9-10/1/1939
12-13/1/1939

The minimum temperature of 29.4 beats the 30th of January record set in 1964 (27.0).
The maximum temperature so far has only equalled the 30th of January record set in 1968 (43.1).

FlyingHigh wrote:It is more than just a good idea. It is a disgrace it is not happening. Adelaide gets plenty of rain each year.

If a road is, conservatively, 15mt wide, then during a dryish 20-inch rainfall (Adelaide averages 25-26 inches Spelly?), just 1km of road would catch 7,500,000 litres a year. There would be a small wastage through cleaning, filtering, etc and at times not every drop would be able to be stored.
But over all of Adelaide, how much would we be able to catch? We would be able to be close to self-sufficient, with the Murray as a back-up, not our principal source of water. We may not even need to draw on it in those years we get a Jan or Feb rain

I apologise for missing your query FlyingHigh, but the average Adelaide rainfall varies depending on where you hear it from. It is always in the range of 540-570mm; however with all the data I have collated it averages 532mm. Which is actually 20.94 inches.

It is interesting to note that while some parts of Australia (mainly in Victoria) have had the worst drought on record (x amount of years = x meaning decade or more), Adelaide has only had the past three years below that average. Prior to that, between 1998 and 2005, only 2002 was below 532mm.

If the forecast maximums are correct, the 12 days up to and including the 6th of February would average 40.2, the longest span of 40 degree average temperatures. I think it will mainly depend on when the cool change comes through.

Forecast temperature for Renmark tomorrow is 48.
Don't think I've ever seen a forecast temperature that hot before.

In January 2001 both Ceduna and Wudinna had forecast temperatures of 48, and it got to that in both places.
