Australian Flag "Banned" ?

Anything!

Sheik Yerbouti wrote:''I think the best approach is to hold a cultural awareness workshop committee and develop a strategy to palliate these youths. Perhaps the Prime Minister should apologise to them for the racism and intolerance of Australians which has forced them to act this way. Of course, the next logical step is awarding them compensation for mental anguish inflicted by the 'overwhelming' intolerance and persecution they've suffered whilst living in Australia, and give them their own government-funded TV talk show so they can 'explore' their 'pain' with the greater community and bring about 'healing', followed by the arrests of any 'Anglos' who may wish to display the Australian flag. New legislation should be passed that the Australian flag must only be displayed in the presence of every other nations' flag so as to avoid the appearance of racism.''

And if you're telling me you don't recognise that as a sarcastic reply from someone with the same warped views as you, albeit with a few more brain cells, then you're thicker than I thought. Which'd be hard mind you.

The only point I'd make before bowing out of this thread is that racism in any form, whether it's from from the Lebanese community or from knuckleheads like Sheik or Punky, is abhorrent. End of story.

Sorry mate, you caught me with your edit and I'm not sure why you'd question me but:

"I didn't like the behaviour of last year and we have moved the event from Australia Day this year partly because of the way the flags were used," Mr West said.

Ken West is the organiser of the Sydney BDO.

Was that in a media release in the last few days? Not having a go at you, just interested.? A very different reason as to what has been given previously which was that Sydney and Melbourne would be too close together.

Unsure mate, a bit more detail was gone into on the Eastern seaboard than here, but it did say "partly" so perhaps it was half the reason and the 2 gigs being too close as the other half.
Isn't Sydney the first gig though or does it tie with a show from NZ?

Here was the full details of the quote:

Event producer Ken West said the use of flags last year after the Cronulla riots and recent clashes between Serb and Croatian fans at the Australian Open tennis had forced his hand.

"I didn't like the behaviour of last year and we have moved the event from Australia Day this year partly because of the way the flags were used," Mr West said.

"The Australian flag was being used as gang colours. It was racism disguised as patriotism and I'm not going to tolerate it.

"I am telling people not to bring flags - they are free to get them out at midnight on their way home when it is Australia Day."

Gangs use colours and symbols to distinguish them from rival groups.

Mr West added the ban was also in part trying to be respectful to the Aboriginal community, who view Australia Day as invasion day.

"This is about giving people the opportunity to think about it and what the flag means to them," he said.

Interesting. Many suspected at the time they just wanted to increase the length of time they have for all the side shows in Sydney and Melbourne. Amazing some acts play two sold out sideshows as well as the BDO in Sydney and Melbourne.

You are an a-grade tosser (yes, I'm sucked into replying 1 more time...) where have I, or Sheik Yerbouti posted anything racist? All we've done (perish the thought) is have a different opinion on an issue to yourself.
You preach tolerance, yet offer none yourself.

You are clearly a poor example of an Australian citizen- you can't even respect our flag (I'm sure you would've been the type to spit on our returning servicemen & women).
I hope like everyone else, that we never have to defend our country against foreign invasion (why would they have to anyway? they can just buy up our land, chunks at a time), but it would make me sick to the stomach, that people would be dying to defend people like you.

Instead of sipping latte's on the Parade, in-between saving the world (which of course was learnt straight out of a text-book), why not speak with older generation Aussies at an RSL? Get some understanding of the real world...

Perhaps, although Perth has just sold out meaning the whole six shows have sold out, all in record time. They must know a thing or two about running an event for Australians.

I never said anything about their ability to put on a quality show, its obviously pretty good.
But there's much more to an event than just putting on a quality show and selling tickets
Neil Diamond concerts manage to sell out too.
