The tension though is our health services aren't funded/ staffed/ equipped (beds) to go open slather with it with the current national vaccination rates.

This was the discussion and fear 18 months ago, why hasn't been there any action in this space?

Very good question.
The public have played their part in the last 18 months abiding by rules and restrictions and slowly getting vaccinated, why haven’t the government and hospital system been preparing for the inevitable?

What would you like to have seen occur and how long do you think it would take you to accomplish it?

We've been preparing for it for the last 18 months - covid tasks forces, planning for surge workforces, building capacity to adapt wards into cope with more critically ill people - within the available resources but Doctors, nurses, etc and hospital beds cost money
Do you want a doubling of the medicare levy? Do you want the biggest public spend each year for States further increased to the detriment of what other government services??

It was a question based on Booneys post that 127 of the 160 in ICU in NSW were not vaccinated.

If more funding is required then quadruple the Medicare levy if that’s what is needed here.
It’s time to stop tip toeing about and move forward.
Yes people will whinge if the levy goes up but I’d be more than happy to pay it to get beds and services available going forward.

So they quadruple the levy next week (and in the process sign their political death warrant and you reckon the incoming will keep to that policy? ), when do you think those beds come on line?

so much this.
could have had the new RAH for all the critical/surgery/new patients, and those that were recovering, or palliative could have been shipped up the road to the old RAH.
but no, they just bulldozed the old one, that actually had more bed capacity than the one it was replaced with...
they could have also spent the last 18 months reopening the beds at all of the country hospitals they have been closing down over the last how many years? personally, a bed down at the kieth (or wherever) hospital would be better than no hospital bed at all
SA hospitals are already choccas with no community covid transmission. we will soon be smashed with covid too, as NSW and Vic appear to have just given up

Stop talking sense mate.
I don’t think any sane person would disagree with you here.
