Fisho is trying to dredge up some motivation to actually do her annual progress review for the Ph.D - which was meant to be handed in last month.

Sometimes I wonder if I should just chuck it in, I am feeling so apathetic! gahhhhhh. I know what WILL motivate me but I really don't want to have to resort to it... If I force myself to play Minesweeper for one hour, without doing ANYTHING else, all other tasks look very interesting and worthwhile in comparison.

I treated a guy in the mid-1980s who was a lecturer at Adelaide Uni and hadn't submitted his Ph.D. thesis 10 years after he'd completed the initial work.
Once his depression was under control he got it completed and accepted within 8 months, and within a year he was Chair of the faculty.

Ah there is hope for me then Pysber, my unfinished piece is ending its third year now.... but I'm not suffering depression just severe lack of motivation...

That is an inspiring story! I'm going to do my best to stick it out.

Fisho just got back from the physio - the bad news is that my neck is well and truly stuffed, but the good news is that it can be fixed over a period of a few months.

(My mother was terrifying me by saying things like 'After seven years of headaches I've grown used to them. You will too' - her neck problem can only be rectified by surgery and she won't do it in case she ends up a paraplegic.)
