Australian Flag "Banned" ?

Anything!

Postby ca » Thu Jan 25, 2007 2:18 pm

Yeah but there has been a gradual increase in its popularity over the years, you are right there is more to the event than just the show. If the event wasn't run so well and if they were not in touch with Australians they wouldn't be selling out in my opinion and people wouldn't keep going back.

Yeah but most countries don't celebrate it!

Are we celebrating the taking over of a culture or the creation a new one? i know i dont have a beer thinking that was great what happen to the indigneous people on australia day... think for most people its just a good chance to have a day off, bbq and a few beers - with all fellow australians, including people with ancestors that are aboriginal, chinese, lebanese, indians, americans, nz'ers, poms the whole lot... should be celebrating the fact we can say what we want and fly a flag.

any chance teh BDO organisers used massive reverse pschyology here??? last year they have only a few people with flags and they used it inappropriately, by "banning" it they got the crowds interest and hence everyone turns up with one and theres less chance of it being used inapproriately beacuse of the masses???

just a thought

I hope like everyone else, that we never have to defend our country against foreign invasion (why would they have to anyway? they can just buy up our land, chunks at a time), but it would make me sick to the stomach, that people would be dying to defend people like you.
Instead of sipping latte's on the Parade, in-between saving the world (which of course was learnt straight out of a text-book), why not speak with older generation Aussies at an RSL? Get some understanding of the real world...

Stop making yourself look silly Punky as you know nothing of my families history in various wars or my thoughts on their sacrifices. Enough said that there are quite a few relatives I never got the chance to meet.

I firmly believe Weary Dunlop would be sick to his stomach knowing he fought and suffered so that people like you could spew bile about his and my great country. He forgave the Japanese for the torture and murder they inflicted on Australians. What's your beef? A few Lebanese knuckleheads make a hateful video and you want to 'fight back'.

Good lord.

For a country you guys profess to love, you don't know much about it.

From Weary Dunlop's official site. Read and learn.

"Among his many qualities, Sir Edward Dunlop possessed a special gift of forgiveness. After the war he said he had lost all hatred when he saw a Japanese POW trampled by a crowd of his colleagues. The man died in his arms as Sir Edward tried to comfort him. Sir Edward said 'the memory dwelt with me as a lingering nightmare… I was deeply conscious of the Buddhist belief that all men are equal in the face of suffering and death'."

He's what makes Australia great, not an angry mob of Aussies or Lebs 'taking back the streets'.
