Previous manager was super intense and it was just the two of us in an office for 14 years, I've been away for 6 months and what I was sold about this position hasn't eventuated, in fact the culture here is quite poor at the moment because of the manager, there's now a third member in the old office and my previous role has yet to be filled. I'm in a strong negotiating position.

Same pay, 4 day working week and you’ll come back.

I worked here from 97 to 05, then from 07 to now, I had a stint elsewhere in between.

My computer used to take 10 minutes to turn on, he brought me a new one that sat next to my desk for two months, he wouldn't let me set it up on my own, on my last day there I rang cleanaway to collect our big blue bin and chucked in all the software that accompanied the new pc, some other important documents may have fallen in with it too.

I am about to change roles internally, but means different reporting structure, no direct reports to me (yay), different office site away from the factory, (much) more money, likely hood of more WFH, more travel (which I enjoy) and more flexibility with time not tied to the factory work hours.

All in all it sounds perfect, but I won't know until I start.

I ended up hating it here the first time around, they employed a GM that was known to make staff cuts, I made sure it was me that left our area.

The day after he left they rang me to see if I'd come back, a couple of dinners and some negotiations I was back.

They were drawing a wine raffle on the day I returned and I won $1000 worth of wine for $2 worth of tickets.

Reasonably narrow field of what I did and may do again, probably 3 or 4 spots the same in Adelaide.

I've recently gone back to my old role after 4 years, albeit within the same company. No good comes from lying in bed at night thinking about work.

Much of the reason I left was the change over to the new owners and two projects we were managing at the time.

The contract negotiations, the uncertainty, the projects that were completely absorbing us all took their toll, along with 6 years one-on-one with my Manager. Prior to that 6 years we'd had people in the office from time to time making it 3, sometimes 4 in there creating a different dynamic.

If I go back I'll be number 4 making it a different place to the one I left. I'll know when I see him tomorrow.
