Seeing a lot of comments of people having tax bills this year instead of returns...i'm too nervous to do mine now

When the fin year started I organised an extra $200pf tax out of my pay to avoid a debt.

Wait till it's "Tax Ready" though as some employers may take up till the end of July to get all info in (and some update them every few weeks so it can constantly change).

There's no need to wait til it's loaded, just use your last payslip in that FY.

ATO wrote:Payslip is a good guide but don't use that figure. You should actually refer to your income statement to work out what to put for salary or wages in your return. This is what your employer reports and what we need to work it out for you

Noone scrapped it, it was only ever a temporary measure brought in 2018/19 that got extended due to covid.
Neither party planned to retain it for 22/23 or beyond.
New tax cuts do start this month though and they're permanent so hopefully it's just one year of pain for most.

My payslip said I earnt $1595 more than my Income Statement. This is quite common but the tax paid is usually accurate.
I'm a few hundred dollars better off having used my Income Statement.ATO wrote:Payslip is a good guide but don't use that figure.
