The only real exposure Victorians had to KG was via calls of AFL games at AAMI. He is still calling games and doing the Saturday show for the time being. So who are possible replacements? Dittmar, Wildy, Smyth?

I think KG gets a hard time unfairly. I know he has slipped a bit but it's impossible to know everything about every AFL and SANFL side's plus Soccer, Rugby and Tennis and deal with some of the people that call up on the show. All the best KG.

Welcome to the "The BP & Cornesy Show" 8-[

Nice ring to it don't you think ???

In all seriousness though, well done KG on a great "Drive Time" career for the last 15 years, I've enjoyed "most" of your work over the last 10 years or so...

Love him or hate him, the bloke is a bigger effing legend than the sum total of all posters on safooty.net combined.

I haven't listened to the bloke in years, and I don't care for his cavalier attitude to the SANFL in these dark days of AFL hegemony, but he's done more for the state of the game in SA than any other person. He will always have my respect for that.

Please expound on that theory. I would debate he did more for the game than someone like Max Basheer for example.

On tonight's show he said it wasn't his call to stop doing the Drive show. He wanted to finish when he was 70 which is next year.

I grew up with KG's Footy Show - compulsive Sat evening viewing. Then I am happy to admit I have listened to his radio shows ever since I started driving home from work which is almost 20 years now

Yes, he sometimes makes stupid predictions and goes off half-cocked but to his credit he always owns up when he is wrong .... and his patience with the "Behind Closed Doors" skits is amazing at times. Blakey mercilessly takes the mickey out every KG payout you could think of.

So well done on a great career Kage!! =D> At least it's not completely over for him as he still gets to do Saturday mornings with "rooch", "the great man" and "studley".
In between signatures .....

love him or hate him, he has been an institution for sport in this state, unashamedly, sometimes cringingly bias to all things south australian he will be hugely missed, i have grown up, firstly watching him and in recentyears listening to him make a fool of himself, but i will miss the old bugger, he is surprisingly a very humble man, lacks confidence big time but the way he has promoted sport in this state cannot be understated. All the best Kage

Far more accurate headline than the one in the SANFL forum.

Andrew Pearce perhaps? ;)

I used to listen to 5AA sports all the time, not because of KG but more the fact that it was the main game in town and they had the sports news. Lost interest when they started forgetting the name of the other teams in Adelaide, besides the Crows and Power. He was shocking when they presented the players pre Grand Final in 2002. "what are they saying? Roo-Dogs?"

When I used to watch the Footy Show, it was cringe central when he was on. Unfortunately when 6PR take a live feed from an Adelaide game, we still have to hear him.

I wonder if he thinks 'Genelg' have a chance this year, that's if he's seen the ladder.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

The reality is his performance over the last couple of years has been that of a 69yo trying to keep up in a younger mans world. For all his good intentions, he's gone well past his use by date and for 5aa to suggest they wanted to give him the opportunity to go out on top is a little after the horse has bolted, he is well past his best.

The funny bit is, if he retires, it won't lower the average age of the on-air "talent" at 5AA very much at all :)

You're right, interesting times at aa over the next 12 months. One can only hope the self professed great one is in the gun as well.

Bob Francis must be close to 80 by now.

This has been on the 5aa drawing board for a while but the surprising thing is, out of the main handful of possible replacements none are super keen to work with Studley.
