For my university research I have had to make contact with over 40 of these such organisations by mail and in just 1 week I have received a response by nearly half of them. Clearly they don't do much council related work if they have time to respond to my questions.......

Marion city council is GOOD.

Anecdote 1:

I applied for council funding to buy equipment for a "sporting club" (for want of a better term) which I conduct within the Marion area. The application was successful, and this saved the club from insolvency. I had to attend a presentation ceremony in order to receive the grant, and this was a real eye-opener. I was amazed at the range of community projects which were receiving funding. Many of them far more deserving of support than my humble club. For example, there was a group of women who provided a point of contact for newly-arrived african (Sudanese?) migrant women, taught them how to survive in Aussie culture and gave them social support. Other projects included stuff like building works for kindergartens, community centres, church groups etc. A lot of good is done within the Marion community thanks to these grants.

Anecdote 2:

We had trouble with a neighbour's dog crapping out the front of our property. Asking the neighbours to do something about it was fruitless. So I took a few pics and videos of the mongrel doing its business and sent these to the council. After a few weeks I got a phone call from the CoM's dog control officer who told me how he'd spoken with the property owner and advised him of his responsibilities, etc. We have not had significant trouble with the mutt since.

I'm sure other councils are bordering on dysfunctional *cough* Holdfast Bay *cough* but I've only got good things to say about Marion.

Thank you for contacting the City of Marion in relation to debris in the
gutters on Diagonal Road Warradale.

Our street sweepers operate via a programme that ensures all of the
Suburbs in the City of Marion have their streets swept approximately every
six weeks. Unfortunately this time of year we have trees shedding
excessive amounts of bark and leaves resulting in large amounts of debris
ending up in the watertable. We have a contracted another street sweeper
to assist us with this issue and will be operating in our council area
beginning the 9th February 2009.

I have spoken with the Field Supervisor in charge of the street sweepers
and he has assured me that the sweepers are due to return to Warradale via
the programme and sweep the entire suburb.

If you have any further concerns in relation to this matter please feel
free to contact me on the details provided below.

Thanks Colin.

i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway
